So picked up a nice cheap and complete pb 140. As usual, needs recapping. Haven’t done that yet. On a quick powerup test backlight came up but nothing else. Imagine this is due to bad caps. Screen looks decent. Will try and recap today. Will also get the values for the inverter for macdat website too:) one for sure is 47uf 16, and other is 33 something

So, recapped. Inverter board was 33uf 10v. Little imperfections in screen, but not horrible. Floppy works. Has a 6 meg expansion board, and a 200 meg hard drive:)

It gives me death chimes when power pressed, but workd fine when you hit reset. Does it as well with memory expansion pulled.

Nice work :)
I had a similar bright mark appear on my PowerBook 3400's screen after I recapped it, not sure why. It improved over the next day, now it only shows up at off-angles.

Thanks! Yeah, interesting not sure if it was like that before recapping as it never booted or showed anything on screen. Back light came on but thats it. Any idea why i get sad mac chime on button press, but chimes and boots normal if i hit the reset button? I recappped my 3400 but not the display yet

I couldn't guess honestly. I've never heard of a problem like that before. Does any sad mac code appear on screen?

This kind of quirkiness is exactly what I'd expect from the 100 series. They're so annoying sometimes.

You should recap your power supply if not done already.

Just remembered -
I had a similar problem on a 165 where it wouldn't chime if the power button was hit, but would start up if the reset button was pressed after. Even then it was very unreliable and would keep cutting out. I eventually traced this to a damaged/worn out AC jack on the main logic board. Got a new one soldered in and it's rock solid now.

I noticed corrosion around the jack so will look for replacement for sure! Thanks for the info!
