Which G3/G4 towers are you guys keeping?

Walking around the lab today and was looking at G3 and G4 towers of the non beige variety and was wondering if I was missing anything important. Currently I have 2 x B&W G3s (one with a G4 ZIF I think), 2 x Sawtooths (both with 500x2 CPUs), 2 x Quicksilvers (800x2 and the one in my room with a G4 1.27ghz Sonnet), and finally a MDD 2x1Ghz machine. Never had a GB Ethernet tower, Yikes, or Digital Audio. Any real reason to own any of those? What are you guys holding onto from that era tower?

I have got one of each (except for the MDD and DA i think) i have got a Beige G3 as well.

Any real reason to own any of those
Don't know really, all but one were free, and the one i paid ...was more or less a trade.

The G4's are handy, mainly used to fill the gap between new and old (i can download software and copy this to floppy or Zip) are easily upgradable, just a bit bulky.

The Beige was collected for parts mainly, but is working flawlessly, is one of the 366 Mhz model.

I just need the bookends for my DA and QS'02. Right now I need new PSUs for both. :-/

I like the design, especially the Graphite DA, so a set of the four flavors seems like a keeper for me.

I've always wanted the Beige G3 MiniTower, my Beige G3/DT being something I never really wanted, but couldn't pass on when I had the chance. I think I've got more stuffed into the DT than I could fit into the "real" Tower configuration. It's definitely a keeper for the new/old bridge and for testing PCI Cards. I mention it because it's a MetalMiniTower now, it takes up less space than the actual MiniTower and shows off Apple's sheet metal industrial design, which I've always admired.

The B&W G3 is handy as it still has ADB. Also I thought it was one of the nicest looking machines.

I have a Gigabit Ethernet for heavier lifting and a dead MDD that I'll have to try and get a PSU for at some stage.

I have a Beige G3 MT (plus a few g3 desktops), the tower is one of my favorites.

The days you can pickup a 68K mac locally are pretty much gone, even early PPC is hard to find. Figured I would look into what G4 towers I might want to save before they all get recycled or command decent money down the road.

Not sure I am even going to bother with a G5 tower, as it is every PPC I own (even the MDD) can boot OS 9.x natively.

I have a beige G3 and a B&W G3 which has a Yikes! board in it, but a G3 processor. I will probably keep both of them, and if one came along inexpensively, I would pick up an MDD, but I'm not actively seeking any of the others. If you have a QuickSilver, they're pretty similar to the Digital Audio, and that's just a hop/skip/jump (only one) from the Sawtooth and Gig-E anyway. It's a lot like the difference between, say, the Quadra 650 and the Centris 650, or those and the Quadra 800.

If/when I look for another PowerPC system, I'll probably be doing it for OS X 10.5 apps like Creative Suite 3/4 and Office 2004/2008 anyway, so I'm not sure I'd bother seeking OS 9 compatibility. With that in mind, I could go for the mini, or the 1.42GHz eMac, or an MDD PowerMac. (dual 1.42 would be ideal, but if it was cheap enough, I don't think I would say "no" to any configuration.)

Keeping the G4 DA that I got in early 2009. Soon to be adding the B&W G3 that Anonymous Freak was selling. Mainly to have as a backup for the G4, even though I rarely use the G4 these days. If I get a Nikon Coolscan slide scanner, the G4 will see more use.

Re: MDD machines, the one I had was a machine that I picked up at RE-PC for $35. A little noisy, hence the reason why I had it and no longer have it.

if i could get my hands on a DP 800mhz Quick silver…

I remember, I had one of those.. it was sick fast.

It would fully install TIGER in like 11 minutes.

Only real G4 Tower Im keeping is a MDD. Had a Beige G3 but I gave that one away when I had to decide between the 9600 and the G3.

The 9600 leaves me with more processor options as I can stick in either the dual 604, various G3 cards or the ZIF carrier for even more G3 and G4 ZIFs I have flying around.
