its because the DC input goes through a resistor... need full battery voltage to switch on the FET
Ok, so good to keep plugged in with original power adaptor?Lead acid batteries do not like to be discharged at all. They need to be kept up at all times if possible. You can either keep it continuously charged in the Portable, or as I do, I keep it on an automotive-style battery maintainer when I have the Portable in storage. One not-so-great thing about the Portable is that it pretty much draws as much in sleep as it does shut down: there’s no true “off”. The battery in mine will fully discharge in three days if not plugged in in some manner.
Either that or remove the battery when you're not using it (and also remove the 9V). It really depends on how long you're keeping the thing on the shelf. I don't use mine a whole lot (once every few weeks), so I don't have a 9V in it, and I don't put the battery in it until I use it. I don't care if settings are lost, it's really the only reason to keep the batteries in. The 9V isn't even required, as it's merely there to power the system while you have the main battery out (like while swapping it). An SLA battery should be fine without a recharge for 4-5 months, so as long as you're using the Portable / recharging the battery a few times within that span of time, you're fine.Ok, so good to keep plugged in with original power adaptor?
Ok, excellent, thanks for the info. Is system 6 the best for this? Only have 1 big meg of ram lolEither that or remove the battery when you're not using it (and also remove the 9V). No, it came with a modem. Will have to buy the ram card when more are in stock. This portable almost boots instantly with blue scsi, unreal.. have system 6 bare bones on it right now.I'd advocate for 6 with that. 7 will be a massive kludge with that paltry amount of RAM. Stick with 6. Any chance for you to find one of those RAM cards around?
Ok thanks!! So this is weird, i opened up the control panel on my iBook g3 clamshell and it actually controls the brightness lol.. i am using the ibook to transfer files to floppy. You're gonna need the Brightness Control Panel v1.3 IIRC. I'll try to find a link for it.
Edit: Portable control panel, sorry.

Can someone send me a 4 gig or 2 gig blue SCSI sd card with the proper system folder lol.. this is driving me nuts...still nothing. says contrast. Will gladly pay for itThis is the one from System 6.0.7. This should work...unless there is a hardware issue.
no 5120, lol guess that makes sense now...good grief..You have an M5126 portable, right?
