From Craigslist for 20.00 MINT... He thought it was broke, it just needed a pram battery.

Originally it was 30.00 got him down to 20.00

Upgraded the CPU (From eBay) for 10.00 to 400MHZ w/1meg level 2 cache.

Upped the HDD for 15.00 to 120GB.

Memory pc100 to 512mb from 32mb for 20.00.

Vram upped to 6 mb from 2. 5.00

USB Card, 15.00..

Now I can run all of my old stuff!!!! I used to have a color Classic that I posted back in 8/08 but I sold it on ebay due to the fact that it could not run everything It had even with a upgraded CPU.

So the AIO is the color classic grown up!!!!!

But the AIO IS HEAVY... But the monitor in it is like brand new. I don't think there was too much time on this... seriously a iMac original now most of the monitors are getting really dark for a 10 yr old computer.

This monitor is bright and crisp...

I've actually never seen a G3 AIO "in da flesh", as they were never sold here in Australia. And from what I've seen in photos (i'm sorry, but I do think it is most likely The Ugliest Mac Ever), thats probably a good thing. :p But as jt said, i hope you enjoy it and that it serves you well. :) Great score. :)

Yeah they are unique, that's why I like it.

I also like it for expandability also...

But they are heavy tho... 60lbs... my G5 is 50lbs...

I owned two for a while; I did like them a lot but they are really heavy.

Nevertheless, nice score! :D

This thing is like new tho, i've seen alot on ebay that are yellow and marked up.

They are really heavy... I thought the emac was heavy...

but since this is my only "Classic" mac it's a keeper...

runs my old games and office 2001 great.

I just have os9.2.2 did have 10.2.8 but wasn't impressed...

But I have a dual core G5 for my newest programs.

The monitor in it is realy nice, alot nicer than the first gen imacs...

Don't know if this is cheap, but . . .

The G4 ZIFs are back in stock, you should be able to purchase them now. The vacation is over as well.

I should have at least 15 more G4 ZIFs I can sell and plenty of jumpers (required for installation into Beige G3 and B&W G3).

Cool!! I just ordered a ZIF G4... I didn't need the jumpers as I already have it set for 400mhz with the G3 upgrade that I put in, I WAS looking on ebay for a G4 Ziff b4 I bought the g3 400mhz...

so I'll have a Powermac G4 All In One... Cool!!!!

THANKS!!!!!

I remember reading Leopard would be capable on a B&W with a G4 upgrade. Do you think you could get Leopard on an AIO with a G4 upgrade?

Just sayin'. :)

It's extremely difficult. More old drivers were removed from Leopard that have to be put back.

Not worth it IMHO, except for the "because you can" factor.

I'm going to put Mac os 9.2.2 and then 10.2.8.

I really don't want to use xpostfacto, too much of a pain.

I'll be happy with the G4 and 10.2.8.

with the G4 it should be a little snappier than with the G3... Right?

The G4 will definitely improve OS X. OS 9 will also be slightly faster.

Also, the G4 has a 1 MB cache. If your G3 has a smaller cache then that will be an improvement as well. (If it has a 1 MB Cache then no improvement).

I would recommend Panther though, it has speed improvements, and it's not too hard to use with XPostFacto.

The 400 MHZ G3 I bought on eBay has 1m cache but going to G4 like you said will be faster.

Yes but xpostfacto runs into problems if you zap the pram or reet the nvram...

Or if the pram battery goes dead (Even tho I bought a new one for the AIO)

Leopard will run on the AIO with a G4 upgrade.

You will need to disable the onboard video and replace it with a PCI Mac ROM video card (such as the ATI Radeon Mac Edition), then copy the Gossamer kexts into the system installation. Finally, use XPostFacto to boot up off that disc and into Mac OS X Leopard.

I have the Gossamer, B&W and Yikes kernel extensions here, was planning to experiment rolling them into LeopardAssist 3 along with the XPostFacto stuff. It never came to be, but with the files it can still be done, it's just a little more hacking.

I installed 10.3.9 with xpostfacto things seem to be good, just waiting on my G4 400 CPU.

it is alot snappier with 10.3.9 with the G3 @ 400 mhz...
