Mac SE/30 with Micron Xceed and Daystar Turbo 040 External Display Problem

So for some reason i dont know if this is a known problem but when I run my xceed with my daystar it displays colors all wonky on the external display and changes color when switching display modes or everytime i boot up.

If i run the xceed card alone it works perfect with no probs. I dont know if its my raiser card or its interfering with the daystar 040.

The se30 is mostly stock with system 7.5.3, bluescsi v1, 4x sticks of 4mb making total 16mb ram, stock rom (i do have 3rd party rom on hand) and it has been recapped.

Anyone know about this? Do i need to install drivers for xceed and daystar cards? Currently has none and just running off the cards roms.

The Xceed driver in the cards ROM is not compatible with 040 CPUs.
There’s no solution to that problem so far.
Using a Carrera040 partially works around that problem as long as you don’t change bit depth or resolution as long as the Mac operates in 040 mode… if you do you’ll end up with the same corrupted colors.
The Turbo040 can’t be switched off and will always run with the 040 as the main CPU so that’s why the card already comes up with messed up colors. The Carrera040 starts uo with the logicboard 030 CPU and switches to the 040 later in the boot process after the Xceed already has been set up… that’s the reason it kind of works with the Carrera and not with the Turbo.

Yeah i just found out later this post which kinda sucks but i hope one day someone will modify the rom on the xceed to work if thats possible. I guess for now ill look for a P33 card or another video card.

I also tried to mess with the drivers and setting the card in 030 mode hoping it would work but like you said, it just boots straight into 040 soon as you turn it on. Sometimes after i set 030 mode and then try messing with the display i would get perfect colors then goes wonky after I start a game.

A ROM modification ought to be doable - The source for the Xceed Color 30HR is available. I'm idly fiddling around with getting it into a state that can be compiled, so that perhaps somebody motivated can tackle this and other more invasive changes some day.

That would be nice, hope its soon since there is clones of these cards floating around now. My card is the color 30 so not sure if theres source for that yet but i bet people on here could easily reverse it anyways

Some games change the bit depth when they start. Some come with a custom CLUT that gets written to the DAC. Both cases will trigger the problem in the Xceed driver when running on a 040 like you can see.

My card isn’t a clone of the Xceed. It’s using a completely different hardware design and with that obviously comes a different driver as well.
It’s already completely 040 compatible in its current state and works nicely with either the Turbo040 or Carrera040.

oh i see, wonder if anyone would want to trade an original card for one yours if they have unless you got one you would trade it. I dont care for originality with these.
