eMac front panel retrobrite

Have been using one of the "can boot to OS 9" eMacs as an early OSX machine, however the front panel is yellowed as anything.

Not looking for a philosphical debate on the technique. I would like to restore the original look.

More looking for whether it's possible on these double plastics. Has anyone successfully taken the front panel off? Will the technique actually do anything due to the extra plastic coating?

It seems very few are interested in these machines, and even fewer have tried this.

Thanks!

No idea about the plastics, sorry. In your position I’d persevere, however, as I liked the look of the eMac about a thousand times more than those of the G3 iMac. I couldn’t stand those things back when they came out, and still can’t. For some reason, the eMac does not for me hold the same repulsive connotations. I dunno….

Beyond such inanities, I will add that this is one of those, “You know when you’re getting old when,” moments — which are arriving more frequently now that I am in my 60s, I have to tell you — as in, you know you’re getting old when eMac plastics need retrobrited. Gott im Himmel! Where did those decades go?

Ha ha, indeed, thanks for your perspective. Personally love all of the AIOs right up to when everything became aluminium-finish. It seems though, for some reason, these particular models aren't as well-regarded, which is strange as they have lovely high refresh Trinitron displays and some are OS 9 native.

That said, it's certainly amazing that eMacs are now of the age that they're yellowing. Strangely, it only affects the front, and even worse it's not even yellow - more like a rose-yellow-cream. Gross.

I'll attempt to disassemble it down to the front panel, it looks like a different piece - perhaps it'll be a fail, but worth trying.
