Hey, it's been a long while since I've had a real conquest. This is gonna be my first conquest of 2009 and my first Freecycle conquest. I had put a post up on freecycle saying I was after a vintage Mac. Lo and behold I get a reply from somebody in a town about 5 - 10 miles away, saying that she and her husband run a business and they retired a Mac that was used from about 1998 - 2003, and I was free to take it. She also said that they had older Macs in the garage and I was free to take any or all of them. I called to arrange a time and she was telling me that she was surprised they even still had them. Score!!!! :D

W00t! My guess is you're going to score a Beige G3 - and good luck with the older gear too!

I feel really strongly that I'll get a late Beige PowerPC machine. If it's an iMac I won't bother grabbing it, as I only need about 2 machines to boost my collection. I'm heading over there in a few minutes and I'll be sure to get back to you guys about the big(?) score!

Dammit... That's what I get for not watching Freecycle often enough. (Or posting often enough.) Lemme know if you have any spares that you might want to trade for some of my spares.

edit: My offer is because we're local to each other, in case you were confused.

Well...

1 Macintosh SE 4MB 800k, upgraded hard drive to 30MB, very yellowed but runs quiet and smooth, System 6.0.7 and Finder 6.1.6b12 ( :?: ) Also, I thought I got something really good in the PDS slot but it had been emptied (it had a Radius Two Page Display cover)

and (you can't win them all)

1 Performa 6400/200, 136MB, 3GB HD and Mac OS 8.6 *sigh*

Good haul, I guess, it was worth the trip out there! :D Also the Performa came with a booklet of CDs including Performa System Software, and Norton Utilities, which sorta rescued the zip disk that was failing (it still won't boot Mac Plus).

EDIT: In case this is a rare Finder I will be sharing it. :)

Ah well. The performa is a nice machine and the SE is a nice compact. Too bad no G3 but it was free.

Maybe you can make a good server out of the 6400.

The 6400/6500 machines are wonderful. The case isn't that hard to get into. :-/

Sonnet still sells cards?
Hells yeah! [:D] ]'> For sixty clams, you can have a G4 even.

Now that second slot - hmmm. Tempo Trio or better video? Decisions decisions.

If you can live with 136MB of RAM and a G3, the L2 cache slot upgrades can still be rustled up cheap on the bay, leaving you two PCI slots to play with.

136MB should be adequate for a MacOS 9 machine, unless you're working on huge Photoshop/video files. In which case, use a different machine.

Lawd .... a 9500 with six of those G4s, and the appropriate kernel/driver hacks ....

Actually, I believe this one has the cahche card. One PCI slot is filled with an ethernet card that won't be used. I have a spare Rage128 16MB card which should speed this guy up more. I might consider the G3 if it's toggle-able.
