Classic with sad mac (maybe) after startup

This is my first post here, so I'll start with short introduction. I have almost no experience with Apple computers. I was a Commodore 64 user in the 1980s, MS-DOS and Windows 95/98 in the 1990s and Linux since 1998. I'm from a formerly communist country where Apple computers were almost non-existent until 1991, and after that for a long time almost no one had money to buy one.

Few days ago I was bitten by the vintage Apple bug after watching too many videos on YouTube and listening too many podcasts on Macintosh Folklore Radio. And today I stumbled upon Mac Classic for sale by a person in nearby town. No keyboard and mouse, but current owner thinks that it works (current owner knows even less about Macintosh than me - he inherited the Macintosh Classic recently). So, he sent me the photo, and to me it seems that some icons are garbled and that something that looks like black sad mac icon is in the middle of the screen. I know that sad mac at boot means that something is seriously wrong, but I don't know what this means. Is it a sad mac? What kind of problem does tat suggest?

I'm meeting with the owner in few hours. Any help would be welcome.

Apparently no sad Mac, just what looks like a sad Mac Icon or lookalike folder. But yes the screen seems a bit odd, but maybe just some adjustment on back pots.

I see you are from Zagreb, pretty nice country by the way, spent a couple of weeks in Zadar back in 2021.

It appears that people just typed gibberish when different icons were selected. It appears to work well otherwise. Nice find!

Yeah, that just looks like someone's been really disorganised in how their files are. The sad mac is just an icon someone's put on something I think.

I'd like to thank everyone for their input. I was planning to get back to you much earlier, ie as soon as I get the Mac, but that got prolonged from a couple of hours to a week because the seller decided to try to find the keyboard and mouse (which he did, yesterday, so the wait was worth it).

The Classic works just fine. The screen looks perfect (nothing weird about it... it seems that distortions were only visible on the photo). Sad Mac really is really just an icon. I'm worried a bit about a hard drive. The sound it makes is disturbing. But I don't worry too much, as I plan to replace it with BlueSCSI anyways.

Oh, nice :) I spent one semester of my master's degree program at the University of Zadar, and it's a really nice town, especially the old quarter (just don't let locals know that you are a fan of a basketball team that isn't BC Zadar... they're kinda crazy about basketball, and not in a good way).
