Question on graphics on Color Classic

I am just installing a Farallon EtherMac card in my color classic. i have long been thinking that the grahics on my ColorClassic and comparing my screen shot (by Ipad) to the picture in the link (9nth from above) I can clearly see, apart from the raster effects, that my color resolution is not as good as on his webpage. I also think my letters on the desktop are quite blurry. So, what is wrong with my Color Classic compared to this one and what can I do to improve the graphics? They are already on Thousands of Colors in the Monitor Control panel..

Link: http://appletothecore.me/files/color_classc_network_card_install.php

You can clearly see my screen has less colorresolution on the "edges of the skies".

No. (I dont understand the ipad argument.) Eventhough he has taken screenshots I can see that my colourresolution is way worse than his. Trust me on this..

What happens when you set it to 256 colors?

It's possible the image in the installer was made for 256 colors and gets thrown off with thousands of colors.

You are right. When I change to 256 colors the graphics of pictures and and the clarity of the letters on the desktop got better.
When I upgraded I used the disks for OS7.5.3 that are on the internet. (don´t remember the exact link but I have the 19.bin files for the installation, see the install readme file below).

What are my options now? Thanks.

Name:         System 7.5 Version 7.5.3

Version:      n/a

Released:     January 30, 1999

Requires:
System 7.5.3 requires an Apple Macintosh or PowerBook computer with at
least 4MB of RAM. Note: newer Macintosh and PowerBook computers
require versions of System software higher than version 7.5.3 in order
to operate. See TIL article 8970 for information on which CPUs support
System 7.5.3.

Description:
This is the North American English version of System 7.5 version
7.5.3, which includes the following system updates: System 7.5 Update
2.0 and System 7.5.3 Revision 2. For further information on System
7.5.3, please consult the Technical Information Library.

Instructions:
This software is available as 19 parts of a self-mounting Disk Copy
image. Download all 19 parts to your hard drive and then double-click
on the first part to mount the compressed disk image on your desktop.

Note that self-mounting Disk Images require Mac OS version 7.0.1 or
later. If you are using a version of Mac OS prior to this, you can
download the System 7.5 Network Access floppy disk and boot your
Macintosh from that to use this software.

..which clearly, also cannot be correct.
But in all seriousness, aside from your “colourresolution” issue, your image looks like crap and you DO need to adjust it. It isn’t sized right, appears to be bowing slightly at the edges and (depending on your phone camera), may have a slight focus issue. Good luck dude.

Are you asking why the colors aren't the same, or why the image on your screen looks like it has been stretched and you can noticeably see lines on the display, and why things are blurry?

I think the raster (the picture area) on your machine has been adjusted to be too big. On most Macs and Apple-branded monitors, there's usually a black border around the picture of around a half inch to a full inch, depending on the display.

I don't remember if the image settings on that machine are in the Monitors or Monitors and Sound control panel, depending on your OS version (the 7.5.3 install set you used would support it) or if they're in holes in the back of the machine you'd adjust using a plastic screwdriver or spudger.

The service manual will know.

Probably in need of a cap kit and a good adjustment afterword.  Depending on it use the tube may be getting tired. -- Both not trivial projects to undertake.

A recap can't hurt, for sure, but I second JIT's display adjustment comment. First thing I noticed in the photo is that the raster is misaligned (it's hugging the left of the display) and the image does appear to bow on the sides. I think Cory's right in that the raster was adjusted to be too big. Definitely check out the service manual for how to adjust the display and do it by the book. CRT technology was famous for not being able to display as clear of an image on the very edges of the tube, which is why there's often that margin of black space around the raster.

If a recap and readjustment doesn't help, and even using the tube in another known-good CC doesn't help, then yeah, the tube might be getting "tired". A CRT rejuvenator can help in that case—but it's only something you'll want to do as a last resort, and rarely, as it can reduce the overall life of the display and the rejuvenation or reactivation won't last forever.

Edit: Also, I should say that, judging by the photo, it doesn't look like your CRT needs rejuvenation or reactivation. The colours and brightness look fine on it, overall.
