Ok the Quadra 605,

I installed x2 512k VRAM sticks, and it still will not allow me a resolution past 800x600, however it does allow millions of colors now.

from lem:

video: 512 KB VRAM, expandable to 1 MB (remove both 256K VRAM SIMMs, plug in 512K replacements; supports 512 x 384, 640 x 480, 640 x 870, 832 x 624, 1024 x 768, and 1152 x 870 resolutions. We have a field report of an 800 x 600 option as well.

i wonder if its because of the settings on my VGA to DB15 adaptor, i doubt it however because in its current setting, my 7500 will display 1152x870

the only time i have to mess with the adaptor is when i plug in the IIsi, i have to change it from only #5 being on, to only #1 being on, for 640x480.

also with the Quadra 700 i installed the 2 (256k) simms from the q605, so the q700 should have a total of 1mb ram now.

Its pretty much the same thing will not allow me to go past 800x600,

The quadra 700 has 8 vram slots, I know they have to be installed as pairs, just wondering where i guess, Near the system ram or in the middle.

i guess maybe i should play with my stupid VGA to DB15 adaptor, now that i am thinking of it.

Lem is right about the 605, though at the higher resolutions you'll not get millions. I think 256 to be more likely. You'll not notice the difference anyway in early System 7s.

Yes, this is because of the VGA adapter settings (or pinout if it doesn't have DIP switches).

"VGA mode" is 640x480 60Hz and 800x600 56Hz.
