PowerBook 5300 Series Power Supply

I've got a 5300c and a 5300cs, but only one power brick (which is working ok so far). I want another. 24V power supplies with at least 2amps are plentiful. For the male connector, it looks like it's a 3.75mm outside diameter by 1.3mm inside diameter. This doesn't seem to be a standard size. The closest one I see is a 3.5mm outside diameter by 1.3mm inside diameter. I've ordered one of these just to test fit (0.25mm difference). Has anyone gotten a replacement modern supply working if so, what size barrel plug did you use?

The other alternative if I don't want to use the stock charger anymore is to open up the laptop again and replace the power port with a standard 5.5mm port. The chassis hole is definitely large enough to clear.

I was just going to recommend that you pick another OEM supply up off eBay, but then I actually checked, and it's starting to become slim pickings! It wasn't that way when I needed one back in 2021, they were still $20-30 then and there were a decent number of them. Now there's only a few and they're all at least $40.

Main reason I was going to suggest that is because you could do the same thing to one of those that we've done for the 500 series. Desolder the wires from the supply and create an adapter. Still an option, but I do quite like the idea as well of installing the larger jack on. The stock jack on those is completely asinine! I'd like to know what group of engineers thought a jack that small was a good idea.

I've got the 3.5mm / 1.3mm coming tomorrow. Let's see if it fits. I'm suspecting the outer diameter will be too small. If so, I'm going to just put a new 5.5mm jack on the motherboard.

3.5mm won’t work. The stock one is 3.75mm as I measured. Guess I will go with replacing the stock jack with a 5.5x2.1 common jack so I can use readily available 24v power supplies.

Ok. I ended up replacing the jack on the motherboard instead. Talked about it in my other 5300c thread:
