Possible conquest: Boxed IIgs

There's a guy selling a IIgs with color monitor and stand, 1x 5.25" drive, 2x 3.5" drives, joystick, ImageWriter, and educational software. Says they all come in their original boxes.

He's asking $175 for the bundle which is pretty steep for me at the moment. Not to mention I'd have to drive 2 1/2 hours to get to his location. I'm going to really push for only $75. I hate to lowball the guy, but gas is expensive and I've seen his listing on there for nearly a month.

Wish me luck. I'd love to own a boxed IIgs and peripherals. :)

Do you have room for the boxes? If it was for a kid he probably doesn't have any rare upgrades in it.

Seller wouldn't budge from the $175 price. Guess I'll have to pass. :(

Edit: I didn't think about upgrades. If it has a Zip Chip or something, then I'll pounce on it for $175.

OK, I talked to the seller. He was willing to come down to $150, so I think I'm going to pounce on it. He didn't know much about the computer other than they found it in their attic when they bought the house. 8-o

So I'm going to drive up there and check it out. Everything comes in boxes. The 5.25, the two 3.5, the main unit, the monitor, the printer, the joystick, and apparently there's an extra unopened keyboard.

I'm pretty excited about this. I think I got a good deal for a boxed IIgs. I can't wait to try out my games on it. :)

I'll post again this evening, I'm driving up there after work. It's going to be a 2 to 3 hour drive, depending on traffic.

Very nice! I got one from my Media Specialist here at the school I work for. Her daughter held on to it for the longest time and I always wanted it, but she wouldn't budge. Eventually her daughter left and it's been sitting in her house this whole time, so she offered it to me a few months ago for free. ROM 01, 2 3.5 drives and 2 5.25 drives, monitor, Kensington SystemSaver IIgs, and a Kraft joystick along with a ton of diskettes. Runs really nice. Have yet to do anything with it lately as I've been rather busy, but hopefully this time off next week will change that. :)

The school I work for is 99% Apple with a smattering of PCs. I keep my eye out for old Apple tech, but the district was really good at upgrading their computers. Anything I might've thought was valuable was scrapped before I even started working here. :(

So I showed up and the computer was in more rough shape that I thought. The boxes were in OK condition, but the glue had completely separated. None of the manuals were there, though at least the video cable for the monitor was there.

The computer itself had obviously been a kid's computer, and also was well used. The IIgs was also a ROM 01, so nothing super special. I managed to talk the seller back down to my original offer of $80, which is pretty fair for him. I'll be lucky to break even on gas and price if I parted it. I bought it anyway cuz I didn't want to leave empty handed after driving 4 hours... traffic in Sacramento is atrocious, and their carpool lane on I-80 is completely, 100% useless. In fact, it was slower than the two right lanes which I ended up merging onto. I was expecting a 2 hour drive, and it turned into 4.

There was one jewel in the lot, though, and that was a M0116 Apple Keyboard still in its box. It, too, was in used condition, but nothing a little elbow grease couldn't fix. While not new, it at least still had some of the documentation, and I can dig up a new coiled ADB cable for it to complete the keyboard.
