My biggest conquest so far

This was a long-project. I was contacted by a guy who had an business but was transferring it to his son. So he wanted to get rid of some old Mac-stuff as he had no space to keep it all anymore. He told he had trashed "few square meters" of vintage apple stuff last summer… but these had survived for some reason. So i agreed to take all what he had left, for shipping cost. I just can't stop thinking what he might have had before what i missed..

Haven't had time yet to power these up, only visually checking. As i have them stored at work.. where i can trash/storage few things i have no use, or are badly broken. Plan on doing some testing next week and take the things i can use to home. Will leave Classic or iMac to work sitting in my desk.

- No PSU, but have PB 100 (still broken HD!) with PSU works with 170

- Boots from System 6 disk however. Too bad those 2.5" SCSI drives are rare and adapters expensive. Bummer.

System 9 installation disk set for iMac 233mhz + 4 pcs of "think different" stickers.

- I seem to have saved these, should have some manuals also. "Mint" machine (broken at delivery) trashed before due dent on cd-rom cover..

Iomega ZIP drive (from Slomacuser)

- With 2 pcs of ZIP100 cardridges

Iomega ZIP drives, 2 pcs (parallel) with PSU's + cables (free from colleague)

ZIP100 cartridges +35 pcs + storage box for ZIP cartridges (free from colleague)

- Took the drives too as the PSU should be same as SCSI model, for spare units.

Whoa! That's quite the haul! Reminds me of the days when schools would let me haul off carloads on the cheap!

I'm jealous of the II and IIx big box Macs. I've got one II kicking around in storage but it doesn't boot and I never troubleshot it. I had one member here make me a good offer on a IIfx but with shipping it was too rich for my poor blood as of now...

The big haul was shipped to me (domestic, using postal delivery unit) arranged using business-rates.. cheap. Paid small fee for the work of packing the stuff, cheap. Other smaller stuff were either free (paid postage) or cheap. Not much money spent.

Too bad the II's and IIx's are basicly barebones, only having case and motherboards. One IIx would be nice have working as i haven't been able to get the IIfx yet.

It takes quite a bit of time to get things sorted and decide what to keep. Some things just have to go.

I think i'm going to try found an PSU for the IIx and see if i can get one working unit out of those II's. If i remember correctly, some of the IIci/cx's have an quadra motherboard. Need to check all with more time on hand.

That's a also bit of a bummer, not to get still any AppleCD- external drives or all the external HDD's were not Apple-branded.

The guy seems to have had an 128k before (original box of software, mouse and C-audio tape) and some disks have interesting marks on them.. 512k, Macintosh XL etc... :-x

Remember--full size Mac IIs don't boot unless they have working batteries. Check them first before moving on to anything else.

I'm glad you mentioned that...I had forgotten that fact! I'm going to grab my big 'ol II when I visit my storage room and see if that's the issue! (And pray not to find an acid-eaten mess...)

Ok, i will say that...i am soo jealous. I wish I could still find some good hauls around here.

Quick testing before work:

Classic

- Gives Sadmac:

- if i'm correct, this indicates RAM-error. I have lots of replacement RAM's now. Will try replacing.

SE

- No boot, nothing. Assuming dead PSU. Doesn't show leaks. I accidentally then later dropped the whole machine as lacks the screws LOL

Might be now even more dead Nice case if nothing else.

iMac

- Boots up 9.1 FIN, 128Mb RAM

All 3.5" disk drives have written "doesn't read", "broken". Are dusty. With cleaning/oil might get some working.

No time to check the Quadra, LCII, PM or PM G3 yet. They look solid however. One IIcx seems to have PSU, RAM, 3.5" but no HDD. I'll take one from the leaked LCII and see if that works.

I do not live alone, wife and 3.5 year old girl.. Nor have too much of space. My desk is in the living room but i have some closed-up storage-system also (doors). I've managed to hid lots of stuff when i don't use them but this large haul creates problem. My wife do not like "yellow-piss plastic" specially do not like my 512k/800 and one bit yellowed Classic :lol: Cleaned up last weekend, took 4400/200 to basement among some stuff i don't use (parts). Thinking of making space in the corner, making an tower out of the machines not in use, so far it's safe. But i must admit, it's going too far space-wise. Something have to be done.

I'm not intented to keep these all. Take parts, storage maybe best units out of II or IIx in garage, keep some motherboards (II, IIx, IIci, IIcx) etc. Leave some to work for time being.

I took this delivery as i wasn't sure that there are and it was... cheap.

And like that would be enough, i am facing conquests of NeXT Cube 68030 b&w + CRT, SE/30 coming my way this spring.... When i get he SE/30, and if it works nicely, i have good excuse to take the other classic-form machines to somewhere else than desk/shelf and make the SE/30 my main unit on classic-form.

Larger apartment/house? Yes! Money? No. Smaller collection, or as my wife says "junk".

SAF = Spouse Approval Factor, PAF = Parent Approval Factor, a term from the early days in the 68kMLA.

...and your wife let you build a tower of Macs? I would automatically assume that that would be a HUGE no-no for most! And good luck with the Cube - the way you asked, "Whats NeXT?" in your opening post I assumed a NeXT system was on the cards

Ah ok.. i assumed something like that.

I have not asked about the tower-of-macs :O but if i can hide it in the corner, between the wall and the shelf, it might go thru. Still, better not. Some other solution would be better. Downsizing collection or replacement some of them, is a must..

The "what''s NeXT?" was a little play with words/meanings :lol: should have been "What? NeXT?". Anyway.

I might take the LCII home tonight, it's so cute small thing i can't resist playing with it for some. Tempting to put up an A/UX-machine as well out of some hardware i have.

I'll take a picture of the setup and post it someday.
