Performa450's Machines

Hello, Though I'd actually start a thread for my machines here rather than lots of posts peppered around the Conquests forum.

Previous conquests:
Anyway, time for a new project. This one has been in storage for a few years as it is in poor condition.

PowerMac A1117 Single CPU Dev unit. It's missing the GPU, disks, internal fan assembly and the side panel. The board looks rather dusty too! I sourced a near matching production unit for those parts last year so finally time to have a go at this one! and yes, the CPU is hanging off the board. I hope it's OK...

Here's a few more pics - showing how the machine has lost a few screws from the factory and what a state the inside is... along with some fancy prototype stickers

Borrowed the correct hex key from a neighbour and it doesn't look great!

That CPU socket looks like it hasn't been inserted correctly every time:

Plastic damage aside - what do people think of the pins? I've never looked at a G5's pins before but have seen a few mangled intel chips in my time and from this angle it looks like plastic damage
IMG_2071.jpeg
looks like rust on the heatsink standoffs too... advisable to remove these and clean-up? I've heard the CPU cards are easy to ruin on these (but maybe thats the bit I've just looked at...)

Matching watermarks on the board too:

Does this connector look OK on the board? To me this looks alright too:

And... looking closely at the top left of the board I suspect the connector damage is just to the plastic - you can see the board has lost a couple of capacitors and theres a chipped coil too, so probably impact damage. I will have to check my donor machine to see what is missing.

Have now fully dismantled this - unfortunately found the following:
* a cap next to the processor power supplies fell off (!) when the board unclipped. This does not bode well for the rest of it...
* here's a shot of the (dead) DVT PSU
* nice collection of screws and components in the bottom of the case. What do people think? Basket case or worth getting someone competent to recap it?

Not quite as exotic this time - picked up a smashed up Powerbook G4 12" as I needed a charger, and genuine chargers appear expensive on the bay. It has turned up, but is in pretty decent shape apart from the smashed screen. There's a jammed memory bay door screw, but, other than that and the screen, it appears to be in good working order. Even the battery appears to be charging, and it's taking a while like my working G4 iBook! It's a 1.5 GHz with 512 MB RAM, combo drive and a 60 GB disk. I used to have one of these back in the day and it's a great little machine.

I'll likely drop it on trading post later - just scanning the drive (which appears fine) and then will hunt out an external display adapter, which has gone walkies
