G4 Cube best match ADC LCD display?

Hi,

I'd like to get an Apple ADC LCD display for my G4 Cube, and wondered what is the correct match aesthetically:

- Apple Cinema Display ADC 22" (released around G4 Cube era but designed specifically for Sawtooth G4 towers)

- Apple CInema Display HD 23" (released after G4 Cube was discontinued, but not sure if matches transparent design of Cube)

The 23" doesn't work with the Cubes color scheme. The 22" is "graphite" just like the Apple logo on the Cube.

Make sure your Cube can drive it.

Cube is in the fourth column with the Quicksilver.

It can if he puts  a GeForce 2 or 3 in it. It probably wont work with the stock Rage 128. Never tried though.

From the adverts, I think the 15" or 17" is the correct match, with the 20" being possibly the upper limit. Obviously 15" is puny, but...

Yes. But it all comes down to the graphics card. If you ditch the stock one and move up to a GeForce3 64mb for instance, all should be well with a 22" ADC display. I know that someone here on 68kMLA uses that combination. I myself have a GeForce2MX 32mb and a 17" Cinema Display connected to my cube. Works like a charm

Best match? Any ADC monitor with a graphite Apple logo.

That's the 15" LCD, the 17" CRT, the 17" LCD, and the 22" LCD.

Also, the 22" ADC wasn't designed for sawtooths… because they don't have ADC!

There was an earlier 22" LCD with DVI inputs that was released with the first G4s, the ADC model is for the Gigabit Ethernet and newer.

The 15" was the one you always saw in the pictures/posters/ads.

The stock Rage128 will drive that, and the 17" at full resolution.

To drive the 20" and 23" HD Acrylic model at full res, you need an upgraded card. I personally like the Mac Radeon 7500 with the endplate removed. Other options exist, and if you are willing to do hardware mods, there are a lot of choices.

If you update the hardware and go for a 22 or 23" ADC monitor, it might not be a bad idea to find one of Apples DVI adapters so you're not pushing so many extra watts through the VRM.

waynestewart - good point. The power budget is pretty tight on the Cube, especially if you also have a CPU upgrade installed.

There's also two PSU's for the Cube, a 225W and a 205W unit.

I've matched my Cube with the 17" LCD.  Seems the best aesthetic match.

Thanks all - seems ADCs are fairly easy to obtain in my parts, so I'll look for a decent 22" model - yes I have an ADC to DVI adapter
