Formac Proformance III Quickdraw acceleration

I have installed Formac Proformance III graphic card in Powermac 9600 and tried with sys 7.6.1 and 8.6 with the same result. When enabling the quickdraw acceleration it distorts the screen. So it is unusable. Any idea or experience with this cards?

I don't know if this is the *cause* of any of your problems, but beware that the Proformance III uses an oddball video chipset (A 3D Labs Permedia 3) and googling around seems to suggest that the board had compatibility issues with older (IE, beige) Macs. You'll definitely need its specific driver to accelerate anything.

I have relevant drivers also the orig. CD, so it looks like could be compatibility issue, even it supports system 7.6.1 which runs on beige macs only ...

I use a Proformance III in my Umax S900 clone (8600/9600 family clone).  I have used it with 7.6.1, 8.6 and 9.1 without issues -- well one issue.   The first time that the Formac drivers load, the system locks up during extension loading.   Or something like that.  It's been too long.

In any case, on the second boot, it's fine.  I've been assuming it needs to load something into NVRAM which needs to be there at boot time.   The first boot loads that codelet, but it wasn't available at boot.  The second time it's available at boot time adn everything is well.

But I may be misremembering those details.  In any case, the Formac Proformance III works excellently in X500 and X600 family machines.  I've been using it for many years, perhaps over a decade at this point.
