Centris (V)RAM info, just offhand...

Hi all,

Since I have a bit more free time on my hands, I've decided that it's high time I cure my Centris 610 of its Chimes of Death. (see my other post from...ages ago. )

I'm almost positive it's the RAM or VRAM, based on info gathered here and elsewhere about the Chimes of Death. In fact, it's more likely the VRAM than RAM.

Anyway, while I'm here swapping out the (V)RAM, I think I'll just go ahead and give it maximum everything. So, can anyone here, just offhand, give me:

1) The model no. of the 32 MB 72-pin 80ns (or faster) SIMMs that will give my Centris maximum RAM? And...

2) The model no. of the 512k SIMMs that will give my Centris maximum VRAM?

I have a Quadra 610 with two VRAM simms... not sure what size they are, but I can check for you on Monday. I'm pretty sure the C610 and Q610 use the same VRAM.

Yeah, they're practically the same machine (save a few minor upgrades for the Quadra version)

And obviously I have the model numbers of the current RAM and VRAM SIMMs installed in there, but it's not the maximum it can have. And before I buy maximum RAM and VRAM for the Centris, I want to make sure I buy compatible SIMMs. Which is why I posted here, just in case someone here has the full 68mb RAM and 1mb VRAM installed in their machine and can give me the model numbers of the SIMMs.

VRAM is the same 68-pin SIMMs, e.g., Apple p/n 630-0044, 820-0269, used in other 68k and early PPC machines of the era. The PCI PowerMacs moved to 112 pin, 1MB VRam SIMMs, and you don't want those.

RAM is just the standard 72-pin SIMM variety. What you really need is to have the chips tested in a Mac.

Someone on here will do a deal if you ask. I can sell it all to you if you like — having bags of the stuff — but shipping is a bit slow and expensive due to the border.

I'm currently following up a couple of leads on eBay; I've found a couple likely candidates but I need to know their speed.

But if they turn out to be not what I'm looking for, I might just take you up on that.
