Got this from East Carolina University surplus for $15, its a fairly basic 733 with no RAM or HD (they wanted $50 for one with those).

Also picked up an Apple Pro Keyboard for $7 while I was there :)

Wow... and I thought I was doing good getting a 400mhz Sawtooth at TCF for that price.

Congrats on the great deal.

I don't know if I ever posted about it, but I got a Quicksilver carcass (case, PSU, mobo, and even a set of Pro Speakers) from my office for $25 a couple years back. I had everything else I needed minus a processor and a friend gave me a 733 for free!

I love the appearance of the Quicksilver, it's easily my fav model G4. Great purchase!

Yes, I definitely agree that the pinnacle of G4 case designs was the QuickSilver... the MDD was just way too blingy.

Here's what's in it now:

733 MHz G4

256 MB RAM

80 GB 7200 RPM HD

32 MB GeForce 2 MX with ADC and VGA

Internal Zip 250 drive, CD-RW

Interestingly, but unsurprisingly, ECU ordered these sans modem. It also still has its "PROPERTY OF COLLEGE OF EDUCATION" sticker on the side of the machine.

I put 9.2.2 on this thing, and it FLIES! :D

Its funny - I remember when the Quicksilver first came out, everyone thought it was the ugliest thing they'd ever seen. I remember an image of one actually got leaked a week or two prior to MWNY2001, and everyone was saying, "Apple would never design something like that." But they did...and although I was one of those people who thought it was ugly at first, it quickly grew on me.

Anyway, great score, hope it serves you well. :)

You should stick 1.25GB in it, or 1.5GB. I use mine as a file server and on and off web surfer when I'm in a desktop mood.

It also runs a triple screen setup, downloads videos and other files, and has 4 HD's inside.

G4's are the best newer mac's out there, cheap, not too slow yet, and you can actually work on them!
