Hi Uniserver,

did you have any luck in finding any of these?

I'm also looking for some LC1 schematics, but haven't found any yet.

Cheers.

No, I have been so busy.

I'd love a database of Mac Schematics.

WE should contact this guy and figure out a reasonable arrangement

http://www.bomarc.org/ordering.php

or i just have to personally pay him for all the 68k schematics for my self.

Group buy or group funding. Like Kickstarter. I'd try to get the PDFs, if possible + license to redistribute. Probably won't happen though.

There are a bunch of Powerbook G4/iMac G5 era official schematics floating around the web in pdf format too. The oddball is an EVT Powerbook G5 logic board schematic.

JFYI, when ordering from bomarc, he prefers to do things in relatively small batches. About 20 pages or so per order. He's an interesting guy. He does it old school, running off each run on the xerox machine and taking them to the post office, complete with what appears to be a typewriter written shipping label. USPS did end up returning one order I placed from him, which is one of the reasons for the small batches.

The Blob

Bomarc went out of business in April of 2009. I can still send out

mail copies of prints they had on hand at the time.

It's not all that surprising really. It's a lot less likely that a Xeroxed Copy that's been paid for with real $$$ that has a real, printed copyright notice will be pirated than a virtual .pdf document.

< mod mode >

I'd frown upon these becoming free for the download and enthusiastically eradicate ANY mention of such activities here. We're not talking about the illegality of something as simple as a big, successful company abandoning support for/access to older revs of a product or even a relatively small software company that went under in terms of a so called abandonware product here. We're talking about a SERVICE operation that an individual is still attempting to maintain informally on an ongoing basis, recouping some of the money he probably lost when his business went under.

You just don't steal from people like that. I'm not saying that that's what you were doing . . . NJ, I'm just stating that it would be absolutely, positively UNCOOL for anyone here to even suggest doing such a thing.

If anyone wants to use that hard-won information, ante up! > :(

Are they Apple original schematics or were they created from scratch? If its the former, the fact that he is copying and reselling them for a profit isn't very ethical. I wouldn't be surprised if his business went under because of his refusal to streamline anything. Manually photocopying something each time its requested today is beyond ridiculous. Scan the things in and send out PDFs, charge extra for prints. The fact that he couldn't even be bothered to get a merchant account to take credit cards or even setup a Paypal account says a lot.

As for service manuals being available on the internet, I have a lot of equipment that I have to support now that the vendor has long discontinued support. The existence of publicly available service information is what keeps a lot of older stuff alive. If it wasn't released online, the information would likely have been lost forever. I have contacted vendors that actually threw out the older service information on their products. I couldn't legally purchase it even if I wanted to! I do pay for service manuals for my cars (most MFRs actively update their electronic service systems with new information), but for consumer electronics most of the stuff is online already.

So are the schematics that bomarc had on thier site for macs, still available? or did they go in the wind with the closure. I wouldnt mind pitching in to a group buy. having schematics is VERY handy, especially if you want to reverse engineer and create modifications, etc... such has 030 PDS based devices.

That's what we're talking about here, techknight.

@ NJRoadfan: They're independently developed schematics, privately owned intellectual property, not something copied unethically. I can think of a lot of good reasons for him not to change what he's doing now and none for changing them. Distribution method and pricing information is up to the owner of that information and what's being done now apparently satisfies him and his paying customers. Now your grousing about it sounds more like you're looking to get something for free.

A group buy here would wind up like selling a copy of software in China used to be, basically licensing a major portion of the world's population by banking the profits from one sale. I wouldn't count on it happening.

BOMARC's business was ripped off in the past by scanners/resellers, so he now only sells hard-copies on colored paper with heavy watermarks right across them, so scanning/photocopying is not really worth the trouble for any would-be rip-off artist.

When I bought some from him a while back, I asked about some arrangement to make them more widely available, but he did not respond so I guess is not interested.

If buying, be aware that the schematics do not come with any explanatory notes - they are just connection maps with component types and some values listed. Still very valuable if you are looking at component-level issues.

Rick
