  • Why are fake/dud chips so prolific, even for obscure parts? Blew the original 26LS30 in my CS2200 and ordered 3 replacements from eBay from a supposedly good seller. All 3 would sink half an amp on the -5V rail and burn up immediately. Had me convinced something else was wrong that was killing em, but nope, just got duds. New set from another vendor and it’s fine 😮‍💨

Anyways at least my printers operational again.

You really do wonder why the market for fake chips is so prolific ... what's in it for them apart from annoyed customers?

dud ones, because the price people are willing to pay for second-hand chips isn't enough to cover someone's time to properly test them, so they just sell 'em and deal with the fallout from the duds. The obsession with remarking is a bit baffling though.

I'd be totally fine if they were sold as untested old pulls or equivalent, they're old and stuff happens. It's that they were sold as new old stock but clearly had socket pull marks on them and I'm not even sure if they were real.

Picked up a new-old-stock battery attachment for my CS 2200. Battery surprisingly still works great after a full charge/discharge/charge cycle. I think it's a really cute little accessory and fits so well with the design. I know the Canon branded one was like 1/5 the price but I wanted it to have the matching Apple one. I have no idea when I'd ever need to print on the go with my PowerBook G3 but hey I can do it in style now.
