Two-day conquest

Most will know about the mammoth conquest jsarchibald carried out and shared with us in July - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16410.

Anyway, I've just recently returned from the same property thanks to jsarchibald putting me in contact with the owner.

I am lucky enough that the company I work for has another main office located in Sydney NSW, meaning I travel there a few times a year for work. This time I had a server instal to coordinate and carry out so planned to be in Sydney for four days. The instal/migration went unbelievably smoothly so I left the office two days early and made the 6 hour car journey into regional NSW.

When I arrived there, the only word to describe it was "overwhelming." I have never seen so much vintage Apple equipment in one place.

The property owner was more than happy to let me sift through his collection and take whatever I wanted and obviously I wanted to take as much as possible.

I left the property with two full pallets, all neatly shrink-wrapped and ready for freight back to WA over the next week.

Here's a picture:

Not everything I took is for myself. I picked up a lot of stuff with a fellow collector/enthusiast in mind but what I managed to pickup included:

1x Apple IIc

3x Mac Plus

3x Mac SE

1x Mac SE/30

3x Mac Classic II

3x Mac II

1x Mac IIvx

2x Mac IIci

2x Mac IIcx

1x Performa 6300 with AV and TV tuner

1x PowerMac 6500/275

2x Mac DuoDock

1x Centris 650

1x Centris 660AV

1x Quadra 840AV

1x 6100/66

1x 7100/66

1x 8100/110

1x 7220/200

2x Apple Modem 1200

1x Apple HD20SC

1x Apple external tape backup

1x Apple ImageWriter

2x Apple ImageWriter II

2x Apple OneScanner

2x Apple Color OneScanner

1x StyleWriter

1x Color StyleWriter Pro

1x Color StyleWriter 2500

1x Color StyleWriter 4500

a huuuuge box full of over 20 PowerBooks where I noticed: 145B, 150, 190, 1400, 5300 and iBook G3's

and a stack of Apple promotional papers, adverts, posters and pamphlets plus anything else I've forgotten about!

If anyone else is seriously interested in visiting the property I'll post up a list of what's left there. I *may* make the journey again as I had to leave a lot of things behind (could have done with another ute or a trailer really). If I ever make the trip again I *may* transport items into Sydney so long as you either pay postage from Sydney to wherever you are or if you can collect from Sydney in person. Depends how things go once the pallets arrive in Perth.

I'll post a few more pictures of the equipment saved once it arrives in Perth.

Beautiful packing! You'll have some great fun playing with those when you get home, looking forward to the pics. The 840AV sounds like the jewel in the crown there, does it come with any cool cards inside?

How did I miss some of that stuff!

Great job, and very pleased to see more stuff out of the way for Howard. I'm still sorting through my stash, it will take a long time for me to get it all under control. I am so glad it was a worthwhile trip to you. I see some items on your list that I wish I had taken ever since I left the property, but mainly because I thought it might end up in landfill. But you've got it now, so that is fantastic as it has all gone to a good home.

Hopefully you can add some great items to your collection, would love to see some future updates on the collection and photos of what you scored. Have fun, and good luck!

Thanks guys.

I don't remember what cards any of the machines had in them, I just grabbed whatever looked salvageable. All the IIci's and IIcx's I grabbed had cards inside I know that much - they all looked video related.

As for what's left, here's a rough idea of what I remember off the top of my head:

5x Mac Plus

6x Mac SE

4x Mac Classic

1x Mac Classic II

20x Mac LC, LCII, LCIII, LC475 and Quadra 605's

15x LC630 and Performa 6300's

15x Performa 580 and 580CD

10x Performa 5260/120

10x PowerMac 7300 + WGS 7250

2x PowerMac 6100/60

3x PowerMac 7100/66

2x PowerMac 8100/100

30x ImageWriter and ImageWriter II's

3x StyleWriter and StyleWriter II's

10x LaserWriter (various models)

50x Apple CRT displays of various models/sizes including Portrait and some Radius CRT's

Sounds about right, considering what you got and what I saw when I left.

Seems like most of the really good stuff has been rescued, but there is plenty of stuff still there that would warrant a trip back. Not sure if I'll be up for it again, what with the 32 hours of driving there and back...

Nice haul! Like theos911 - I have no idea what I'd say if I saw that going down the road. Nice score especially on the PowerBooks, both models of AV Quadra/Centris, and the promotional stuff. :)

And if I may say so - nice choice of vehicle too :D

I have a soft spot for the 660AV as it was one of the first "newer" machines I had, after my Color Classic.

The VZ Commodore ute was a pleasure to drive, I really liked it and it still had plenty of power loaded up.

32 hours drive there and back would be too much for me too Jason. Thankfully it was only 12 hours there and back for us. We shared the drive there and back so only 6 hours each.

I wouldn't imagine it'd have any trouble - my parents have an old WB Holden One Tonner (completely stock, with the 202 and 3 on the tree!), and I'm pretty sure that we've hauled over a ton with it in the past. With the Alloytec I can't imagine it'd have any trouble at all. I drive my Dad's VE Berlina from time to time, and its amazing how little I have to push the accelerator for it to push me back in the seat, in comparison to my Astra.

I own only Fords myself but am not interested in the whole Ford vs Holden argument that some meat-heads seem to have here in Aus. The WB with the 202 would have been totally bullet-proof. I would love an HQ one day with a 253, I really like their style and the sound of the 253's but I think a Premier wagon would be mint.

The VZ was really smooth to drive, you really couldn't feel it was loaded up. Totally effortless. I hope the Commodore range is around for a lot longer yet. Between the models they don't really change much - but why change when they've got it so right?

Very nice, also love the ute. I was in Australia a few weeks ago, all the time wishing I had one like it. Our trucks are impractical at best.

Update!

So the pallets arrived into Perth and I carted them back to my place. The only piece that was damaged was the 8100 which had a fairly hard hit on top. Everything else survived the (3,900km) journey by road freight. Thankfully not a journey I had to make!

Here's the pallets on the back of a Ford ute this time, back at my house last night.

All day today I've been looking through it all, de-spidering and giving everything a wipe over. I also separated all the items which I picked up for a friend (and fellow 68kmla member). I'll leave those items out from here onwards so he can create his own 'conquest' thread if he chooses to.

Well there's a few more compacts than I remember packing...

I've realised I haven't taken any pictures of the Apple promo/print stuff. Loads of Apple posters, spec sheets, flyers, magazines, signs and other bits and pieces too. Probably one of my favourite finds as there's some really unusual and cool stuff. I'll try and get a picture in the next few days.

Thanks for reading.

Wow!! 8-o

What are your plans for all this stuff? Going to start a Mac museum to compete with that guy from Quebec? :)

Looks awesome!

A museum would be awesome. Basically a nice bench in the study with my favourite ones setup would do! I have a feeling if I had a museum, no one would visit anyway!
