SuperMac VideoSpigot - no video capture, just a blank blue screen

I got this SuperMac VideoSpigot card off @toples50 but looks like the card is not working. Do anybody have idea what could be wrong? The card is recognised by system and all extensions load correctly. When I first open ScreenPlay it shows a video for a second and then goes to blue screen. Everything else is working, the cables the video source is all the same and works with Rasterops 24STV card without problem.

Have you tried more than one source? The first thing I tried with mine didn't work. It worked with an Acorn Electron.

Q: What is the current software suite for a VideoSpigot?

A: The following is a list of current software that is needed for the VideoSpigot to function properly in supported systems: ScreenPlay v1.2.2 (application), QuickTime v1.6.x (resides in the Extensions Folder), Sound Manager v3.0 (resides in the Extensions Folder), and the Sound control panel v8.0.1 (resides in the Control Panels Folder.)

Q: Is VideoSpigot compatible with QuickTime 2.0?

A: At the time of this update, VideoSpigot software is not compatible with QuickTime 2.0. Until an update is released, we recommend the use of QuickTime 1.6.1 or 1.6.2.

I couldn't get mine to work with System 7. Supposidly if you put SpigotVDIG extension in the Extensions Folder it allows you to use other apps to play/capture video. Apple Video Player for one. If you take it out then the ScreenPlay App should work. That's how it worked on mine. I had better luck with System 6.0.8 though. I still used Quicktime 1.6.2 and ScreenPlay 1.2.2.

Are you running your monitor through internal graphics or a Nubus graphics card?

In the Q650 my Spigot works perfectly with internal graphics but it absolutely hates my BUG Pickles. After some faff with QuickTime I was able to get video input working but trying to record anything either results in a corrupt file or a complete system crash.

The ROM was an odd one, I could read it ok, but it failed the pin check in my EEPROM writer. I flashed a new one to be sure.

Have fun with it :)

Hey so I just dug my video spigot card out and put it in my newly repaired Mac IICX and the card shows up under MacEnvy and TattleTech on NuBus but when I launch ScreenPlay v1.1.1 the YenYang icon spins for a second and then the mouse freezes and computer locks up.

I have tried:

• System 7.1 & System 7.5.3
• Mode32 in 7.1 to enable 32 bit addressing
• Quicktime 1.0 and 1.6.1

IICX has 8mb of ram installed and a Radius video card that can to 24 bit color
Its the exact same machine and cards that I used back in the early 90's along with a Radius Rocket (currently not working or installed) to capture and edit video.
I can render out clip sin Adobe Premiere 2.0 without issue so I know quicktime is working.

Any ideas?
Anyone have a newer version of ScreenPlay? v1.2.2 or other software for it I could try?

Like I said the card is showing up so it seems to be working and if i remove the card then ScreenPlay does launch but everything is grayed out of course...

I recommend starting a new thread specific to your problem, rather than piggybacking on an existing one.

Its generally good practice on forums, and helps avoid confusion.

Well the subject is Video Spigot issues and the discussion involved versions of the software so I figured whats the harm and why bother creating an entirely new "Video Spigot" thread since it is an extremely rare card and subject...

It's normal to start a new thread for a different problem. It makes searching easier (because the title is fault specific) and also, this thread was concluded, now people may be getting alerts, people reading from the top will think you're talking about slomacusers card, and the thread is titled "no video capture, just a blank blue screen", which doesn't match your card. Plus you'd be surprised how common these cards are :)
