This is the CF I have in a 6500 and a 640 CD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009X3MNU/
In the same Startech CF-IDE adapter in your screenshot.

Sweet I'll go ahead and grab that at least it is a known quantity. I do have a 6500 so I can verify my stuff against that but it's just a pain to open it.This is the CF I have in a 6500 and a 640 CD: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009X3MNU/

Actually the drive in my 6500 has died which is why I use my 5500 so heavily much much easier to access stuff. But this is good stuff keep it coming!Sweet I'll go ahead and grab that at least it is a known quantity. I do have a 6500 so I can verify my stuff against that but it's just a pain to open it.

So far so good with the new compact flash card in my 6500. I cracked it all the way open to make it easier to work on what a pain. But there is a lot more room in the case than I thought. The zip bay appears to have room for a second optical drive even. I wonder why nobody ever made a bezel for optical on top….
Anyhow we’ll see if it boots after install. While I have it open I’m going to test the rest of my pile as well I’m the 6500 and report back.
I'm apparently not the first to have this thought! Not an official bezel but goodness his work came out nice. Makes me think I probably could just do my own square zip bezel as well with the blank one and not fuss with finding a real one. https://www.applefritter.com/node/18510The zip bay appears to have room for a second optical drive even. Looking at the side panel, I'm wondering if he had access to a CNC Mill, or lots of patience.I'm apparently not the first to have this thought! Sorry got side tracked here but dang that looks nice.
I think you could do the same thing that he did for the optical with the full zip bezel like this rare full opening option bezel but just flush.

Alright back to regular programming, just got my wheels turning those zip bezels are a pain to find so this might be just the ticket for folks.
If you read the thread I linked he said he used a dremel to make the big hole area then fine tuned it with a file to get an exact fit... Lots of patience and care.. But honestly, I bet you could just get it laser cut if you had someone local turn them out easy. Really looks nice despite not having the bevel around it.Looking at the side panel, I'm wondering if he had access to a CNC Mill, or lots of patience.
Are you sure? Doesn't it depend on the drive and adapter model? I thought some people did this.mSata won't work in a system that old, random errors like that are exactly what will happen. Either that or it just won't be detected, but you've gotten the former.
I ordered another of the same msata I have now, and a transcend to try just in case. It's worth trying for me anyways. So far my favorite solution is the IDE to SD adapter. Very slick and easily allows larger drive sizes. It did though! Just until I decided not to leave well enough alone.

Note don't use the beige G3 as a basis for this sort of thing, the beige g3 ide has more quirks than... a quirky thing covered in quirk sauce, with a quirk stuck in it served on a quirk, with a side of quirks.
