SE/30 Recap - my first one!

Well - she's all up and running on system 6.0.8, with the new 10k SCSI drive and the passive pass-through 50-pin internal terminator I linked to above. Even the LED is working (powered off the adapter). Patched HD setup did the job of formatting and partitioning into three 2GB partitions - one each for system 6.0.8, system 7.1 and system 7.5.3.

The silenx fan is - well - almost silent, and the drive itself is very quiet too - you can hardly hear it writing. There is a low pitched hum, which I suspect could be a drive or fan mounting issue - I'll install some thin rubber or silicone grommets to dampen stuff.

The loudest aspect to the computer's operation is the variable high-pitched hum of the CRT as it draws and refreshes the display. I'm not so keen to start fiddling about with the analog board unless the symptom sounds like an easy fix e.g. flyback transformer. Or were they always like this, but I've just forgotten!?

[Edit: hmmmmm: https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups=#!topic/comp.sys.mac.hardware.misc/gv0FPcooPdg]

I'm now in the process of getting the OS's and apps loaded, and will in turn try to get it connected online (it's got an ethernet expansion card installed).

Overall very pleased - another one rescued from e-heaven!
