SE/30, Netscape, windows too big

Hi All,

Firstly, I'm really sorry if this has been covered before, I have had a search and couldn't find anything, also, sorry if I'm missing something REALLY obvious!

I've just got myself a Shiva NIC and have successfully attached my SE/30 to the network and, internet.

Everything, network wise seems to be working well. I can FTP to my NAS at home and get on the net... I am using Netscape 2.0.2 (and also 3.0.4 and 4.0. . My problems start when I try to make any changes to settings etc in netscape. As soon as I open up a dialogue box (to disable Java, delete certificates to renew etc) I am unable to complete the task as the windows are too large for my little SE30's screen, and so I don't have an "ok" or "cancel" button in the screen to click. I've seen various instructions to select options in Netscape, so I'm assuming I'm missing something obvious... but how do I make these dialogue boxes/windows smaller to fit on my screen and not make themselves so big I can't close or select "ok" on them?

I don't know if this is a Netscape thing or a mac settings thing... please can anyone help!!

Many thanks

Cheers

Nothing you can do, everyone's got this issue sadly, since Netscape really isn't made for these...

Macweb works well on the small screens however.

I always pushed Cmd+W or Return to close the options windows. Saving the settings is a menu bar option anyway. As long as you can adjust them and then save, it should be fine.

I'm not sure it would work, but if you used Resedit to open up the resource fork in (a copy, always work on a copy) Netscape, you should be able to find the correct dialog box and relocate the items you need, within the box, so that they appear on the screen.  Its unlikely that you could relocate the entire dialog box from within the resource editor, but if you are poking around, you could give that a shot too.  Once you use the modified app to set the configs, you should be good to go.

Wow, that exists for an SE/30?!
Yeah, as Themk mentioned there are hardware solutions that are video card dependent, but also some that don't need hardware.

Virtual Desktop is part of the AWOL Utilites by Ross Brown.  It is freeware and you can find several versions over on MacGUI.

Virtual by Pierre-Luc Paour is shareware but fully functional (nag screen).  You can find a copy on archive.org

Yeah, This works well, only problem is to delete a certificate (to renew with a Y2K compliant one) you have to actually click an OK button, which is off the screen....cmd+w or return dont' work on this dialogue box!

I'll give one of the Virtual desktop options a go, just to see, that should be fun trying to get working

Thanks again for your replies... I'm glad it wasn't jsust me missing something obvious and others have had the same issue!

Cheers
