Just a thought, any reason why one could not just find 9 bare resistors and jam them in there?

Thanks for the offer, but probably don't need to. I'll hit my local surplus today and see what they have in terms of regular resistors.

I got my other 15K RPM SCSI drive, but it makes a weird noise after it spins up. Almost like a fart. It was funny at first, but now it's just damn annoying when I fire up my G4.

I think I'm going to just pay a few extra bucks and get a couple 68pin 15K RPM drive. They're $25 instead of $6, but it may be the price to pay to avoid headaches. Plus, I could use one in my vintage Mac just for kicks. Probably Fujitsu since that was the one I had before and it was whisper quiet. I don't think these adapters work too well, and I don't think the SCSI drives can detect what kind of HDD is on the chain (which screws up termination.)

RAID 0 is for speed, not data retention, right? I always get those mixed up.

Can't you use a different RAID (not sure of the number) for data loss prevention? If I was putting two RAID disks in my Mac, it would be in case one of them failed (a common problem), not to increase speed!

Here's a picture of the lid. I ended up drilling out the rest then did a rough sanding in the grooves. Looks pretty bad right now. But it's just in the testing phase.



I'm going to fill the grooves with some putty, then very light coat of silver paint.

And a picture of the inside. I'm planning on installing my JackHammer card, then I'm going to test the speed difference between a single drive, 2 drives on the onboard SCSI, then 2 drives on the Jackhammer.

I also realized I need to make a shim of some sort for the top drive to keep it lined up correctly.

Here's the performance graph for a RAID 0 using the onboard IIci SCSI. When I get home today, I'm going to test it with the Jackhammer if I can get it working. Requires 2 resistor packs, but I only have the 1. I'll try jamming some in there.

If you're talking about the "gap," that's just how the IIci looks. It has that inset running along the perimeter of the computer. The lid is attached appropriately for that model.

You might try Herb Johnson http://retrotechnology.com/herbs_stuff/ for the resistor packs. He sells a bunch of old stuff and might have them laying around.

Er, I admit I was thinking more like just literally jamming eight (not nine) resistors into the appropriate holes, crimp/twisting the ends together with a lead to the ninth hole.

Hrm. I get a 00000001 0000000F Sad Mac error when I plug any hard drive into my Jackhammer card. My Sad Mac App says it's a Bus error. Can't seem to get it to boot with anything connected to the Jackhammer. Dang it.

That's OK, I have a second IIci that's stock and unblemished. This one is my workhorse. I'm beginning to wonder if my Jackhammer is broken.

Rats! Foiled again! One of the 250MB HDDs bit the dust. It was making weird noises already. I'll raid 2 40MBs and give those a go. I also made my own resistor pack using 9 resistors. Not sure if they'll work or not.

Snag a pair of big U-160 10k Drives. The gyroscopic effects in a IIci might prove interesting. [}] ]'>
