So I got this Duo 230 a while back and it’s in fantastic cosmetic condition.
Until recently, it also worked perfectly - I was able to use it and do anything with it that I pleased.
So my project was to rebuild a battery for it, which I did. I got proper voltage and everything but I never quite seemed to get the computer to understand the battery. It flat-out wouldn’t work at all until I updated it to system 7.5.3., and then it would say the battery was fully charged immediately whenever I would insert it.
But all that has become second priority, since the morning after I completed the project, I booted the machine, no problem. Turned it off and booted it again a few minutes later. Heard the chime and everything but all I got was a darkly lit screen, no data to the display, and that’s how it’s been ever since. It looks like the contrast is turned all the way black, but I’ve confirmed it’s not that. I’ve checked all the connections of the display cables and checked everything else obvious I thought to check. The computer is operating fine; when you hit the button to power it down, you get the beep, and when you hit the return key it shuts down, so the OS seems to be operating as usual.
I started collecting vintage PowerBooks a few years back but this is the first time I’ve ever posted on this forum. I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this experience. Is it a common problem? Do these displays just... go bad, all of a sudden? Or is there some obvious fix I’m not checking?
Thanks for reading!
