peafour's finds

Hello all, since it seems like I've caught the vintage Mac/Apple bug, I figured I'd start one of these threads.

I scored what I think to be a pretty good CraigsList deal on a literal car-full of late 80's early 90's stuff, photos over here: http://imgur.com/a/28kgt

I'm particularly interested in the Performa 600 and the PowerBook 160, if I can figure out a power solution.

I haven't had a chance to power any of this stuff on yet, but I was told that the LCs at least power on.  I opened them up and didn't see any gunk on the inside that would indicate blow caps or leaky batteries, so that's potentially promising.

If the ImageWriter IIs clean up, it would complete the SE that I've been wrestling with over here: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/28532-troubleshooting-a-macintosh-se/ When I dug through the material that came with the unit, I found an invoice for the whole purchase which included an ImageWriter II

Most of the stuff is pretty grody.  It looks like it may have come from an auto shop, or some other kind of light industrial setting.  Grime galore, I'll be researching peroxiding before long, I'm sure.

Two 57x machines? That really IS a nice find! You should try and get them even if just for resale...I know that if you're near me I'd be wanting the 578.

Nice haul, peafour. The 575 and 578 are of particular interest because they bust to pieces when you ship them, so you have to find them locally. Also it's nice to have the monitors. It seems like people keep the computers but not the monitors, as I don't see monitors nearly as often as cpus.

Congrats!  That's quite a haul, especially the two 57x machines.  It seems like the ones that haven't been destroyed in shipping have been cannibalized for Mystic CCs.

I did some cleaning/power testing last night, and only the Performa 600 comes anywhere near booting (to a sad Mac).

The 57x machines sound like the CRT is snapping on, but there's no other activity or indicator lights.

The LC (or it could be the LC II, I wasn't taking notes yet), doesn't power in, but the other one sounds like there's some activity.

The monitors all show a picture, except for the one I don't have the cord for, but that shows an indicator light so hopefully that's good.

I may have already hosed the PowerBook with a wrong power adapter, but I've got one coming from eBay so I'll be able to test that more this weekend. But, the battery has some bluish corrosion on the contact points, so I'm not terribly optimistic.

Still, worst case is I have some fun poking around in the interiors and seeing what I can see.

The two 57x machines will need cap jobs, that's not surprising.  The LCs will need both the motherboard and power supply done if you plan on hanging on to them since both are pretty susceptible to bad caps.

Been a while since I've posted, but I've been buying some stuff locally. Picked up another car load of stuff from Craigslist, with some interesting stuff. I'll be adding more pics over the next few days, but this was just my quick and dirty research photos. Some of the stuff is pretty well used, hoping that most of it works:

I'm particularly interested in the blue connector coming from one of the 512s, and what I believe to be the Lisa mouse.

Yep! That is a Lisa mouse. I was interested in the Ethernet card out of the SE/30...
The network card seems like a pretty standard bonus, as far as these kinds of posts go ;) any idea what the blue connector could be? I'm going to start taking these apart in the next few days, but an idea of what to look for is always appreciated.

I'm pretty certain you'll find an aftermarket SCSI card attached to that connector. The card will probably be clipped onto the pins of the 68000 CPU, or it might be connected with soldered leads.

Interesting! The lady said that one of them started on fire, I wonder if this was the one, lol
