Ok got the PowerBook 100 from Tyler and it boots to question mark even with a spare drive I have, of course that drive is probably bad now also.

So first the light is out but with contrast I could see the flashing question mark. So it boots, got some pressure spots on the screen and I need a hard drive. The screen is completely different than the other 100 series. It's wider and shorter. Screen cable is different. Light bar (ccfl) is shorter of course. As always the scsi hard drive is gonna be a bear to find.

So I guess my first plea is anyone got parts?

If you know where to get the parts or if there are good substitutes that would be great.

First start with recapping the logic board, LCD panel, invertor board. All the caps are gone.

When the original Connor hard drive still spins up and you hear a low-volume tick tick sound then it's probably still repairable.

The heads are stuck in the parked position against a rubber degraded washer: open the drive and replace it. With some luck you got a working PB100 again.

The LCD works but it has some blotches that are purple in it. I have booted it off of external floppy. The machine works great off floppy. I have already tried repairing the drive but I will spend some more time on it. The light is dead, I pulled it out and "attached" it to a working inverter board and it would not light. I used my phone flashlight as a backlight under the edge to see the screen. I pulled the screen from the backlight and the purple is in the screen. The screen already had tants not SMD's on it which is different from the other powerbooks but the blotches are I guess moisture or breakdown in the screen I take it? Its not cracked, as I move the cursor past the marks I can still see it. If I could clean the screen, replace the CCFL (a universal would work) and get the hard drive going (had no luck on three conners so far) the machine is good to go. I will recap it when I get a chance but at the moment the motherboard gives no signs of issue.

Thank you for the suggestions.

The purple dots in the LCD as called "LCD rot": it's not repairable and a good PB100 screen is sort of hard to find. Anyway you know what you are looking for as the purple dots are always visable even when the laptop is turned off.

Originally the screen definately did not have tantalum capacitors at the back of the panel ( see back right side ): there were 8 or 10 small radial electrolyte one's so someone has probably already replaced them.

Could be. I didn't ask if he did any recap. Ya the purple is there all the time and there is a lot of it.

I can only ask and look.
