is it still a conquest if it was from a family member?
Uncle upgraded to an intel mini a few years back and had his old G4 mini laying around still. optical drive didn't work, took it to the apple store and the repair cost wasn't worth it(he was already complaining about how slow it was)
So, he asked me a few weeks ago if I wanted it, finally had a chance to get it last night. Of course he forgot the power cable so I'll get that next week. in the meantime I yanked his HDD and put it in an external case to give back to him when I get the power supply.(he does lots of stock trading online etc so I'd just as soon not have any of his data around) put in another 80GB drive I had in that case, upgraded the stock 256MB DIMM to a 1GB(maxed) I also used compressed air to clean it all up.
This morning I used the Powersupply we have for a mini at work to install OS 10.5 server on it. compressed air seems to have fixed the optical drive. (guess the local apple store geniuses didn't think of that one ) works great! All set to replace the stupid LaCie d2 network network drive I have(AFP is not compatible with 10.7+ and LaCie is not going to update the firmware... ) going to do that tonight. YAY!
