G3 iMac 233mhz not starting

I've had this in my collection for a while but only got it out a few days ago as my son loves his old tech (just like dad) and he wanted to have a play with it. It was working fine for a few days but as of this morning it just turns on to an orange led at the power light. The fans start, the CRT degausses, the drive spins up but no chime.
I tried the reset button on the motherboard but it made no difference. The battery was changed about a year ago so I don't think it would be flat yet and as I say it was working fine yesterday so I think its more likely something has let go.

I don't know much about macs but was wondering if these suffer the same capacitor plague that the slightly older machines do? Could it be something that simple, bad caps in the PSU?

I do recall when I first got it you would get the occasional crackle from the screen but I just put that down to dust on the HV side of things, it was stored in the previous owners roof space which was very dusty. I have read about bad flybacks so maybe it wasn't dust but symptom of a failing transformer which I assume would be the end of this machine unless replacements are available?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like the same problem someone asked a few days back. They haven't reported back on anything. You might want to search for another down converter, but no guarantees, not many people here are working in G3 iMacs.

I need help fixing a imac g3 M4984

I bought a imac g3 m4984 I power it on its has a orange power button then about 5 seconds later a click noise then shuts off I unplug the display cable and power it on it stays on but still shows a orange power button

Mines slightly different in that it'll stay on its orange power light until you turn it off. I'll leave it plugged in here for a while then try it again to see if it starts. I really dislike working around CRTs and PSUs but I may pull the covers off and have a look to see if there any obvious signs of something having failed.
