iBook G4 repairs

my iBook G4 has a crooked screen for a while, but now I want to fix it. Not really sure how it happened, but when i close the lid, the screen and main assembly are not lined up correctly. The screen sticks out over the right side. Any ideas?

On another not, I'm finally going to replace the combo drive in my iBook, that's been dead for a while. Several places I've seen on the net offer professional installation, between $90-$150. Money is really tight, but I'm kinda nervous that I'd wreck something, though i;ve opened it up before.

IM SCARED.

Your screen does not line up with the rest of the case when you close the laptop? Sounds like a hinge problem because my G3 iBook has a problem like that except mine actually lifts up on one side.

Well they do have take apart manuals online so that shouldn't be too bad. Take a chance and be VERY CAREFUL.

Dissembling the iBook G4 is a fairly involved process, and will take you quite a long time. Though, as long as follow the instructions and have all the right tools you should be fine. I suggest printing out and following the iFixit guide:

http://www.ifixit.com/

One particularly nice thing they provide is a "screw guide". I would recommend taping the screws to a copy of it as you go along. Then you know exactly where they all came from when you come to putting it back together! The sheer number of different sized screws in the iBook is staggering. Without some sort of way of keeping track of them you'd pretty hard pushed to get them all in the right place!

I'm not sure what might cause the screen to be unaligned like that, but I agree with heavymetal4god that it might be worth checking the hinges. The optical drive should be a fairly simple replacement though...

I have taken apart the clamshell ibook so much that I know where each screw goes....
