*GREAT* Freecycle Conquest

On a whim, I put up a "wanted: vintage macs" on Freecycle and if I do say so myself I have found quite the score:

LCIII (good condition)

PowerMac 6100 (great condition)

PowerBook Duo 2300C (great condition, needs new battery)

Original Macitosh Portable (lighted LCD) (great condition,, needs new battery)

Multiple Scan 15" Monitor (great condition)

High Resolution RGB Monitor (13" or 14") (great condition)

ImageWriter (in perfect condition)

LaserWriter Select (310 in think) (great condition)

Personal LaserWriter (ok condition)

I'm going to get everything except the laserwriters I think -- but I won't be holding on to all of it -- once I get everything and figure out how well it works I will update you all on the things I will release to the MLA masses (free + shipping, probably).

The portable is such a cool find that I don't know yet. I'm moving into a new apartment (a little smaller) soon and I know that my girlfriend will be none to happy to have all these macs laying around so I will be getting rid of some of it, but will definitely liberate most of it for the army! He was going to send all this stuff to the recycler....

I'm picking all this up on Sunday -- I'll get a more detailed inventory and put up a Free w/ Shipping post in the Trading Post for y'all.

Same here, though mostly it's wanted adverts for a range of expensive things like DVD players and laptops. The only Mac I've ever seen on my local Freecycle was a Performa 630, which I promptly liberated!

Very nice conquests btw!

See if they have any original software and OS cds.

You might want to keep one laser around for the macs, cheaper then using an inkjet printer.

The guy is looking for the original CDs and wiping all the hard drives before I pick them up Sunday.

I have laser printer already, and I don't really plan on printing from these but you're right it could come in handy. Toner gets expensive for these older ones, however. I'll probably end up AppleTalking anything I need to print over to one of my newer machines. I'll probably keep the Portable just because its so iconic, not sure about the other machines yet.

I keep an old Apple 4/600 PS printer for my macs incase I want to start programing and printing out listings of code. My HP 4SI also has ethernet and appletalk so I can get by with that if needed.

Most people save the machines and toss the software and manuals, such a shame since that stuff is so usefull.

I had one guy giving me all his old Apple stuff for a couple of months but then he complained it wasn't fair I was getting everything when there were other people out there who were looking for the same things I was. :(

Okay, I picked this up today, and I am crazy stoked. There were several surprises. Here's the list:

PowerMac 6100 in original box

This doesn't have a hard drive, and I haven't opened it up to see what kind of RAM/etc it has. The guy mentioned it has an "A/V card". We shall see what that is tomorrow.

PowerBook Duo 2300c

With a floppy adapter and several floppy drives -- I also think some other kind of MicroDock is hidden deep within this box of stuff, I can always hope it has ethernet, right? This includes two batteries (he says they are iffy) one of which is third party and came with a third party charger/conditioner!

LC III

Has hard drive, haven't booted it yet.

iDock

One of those crazy iMac hubs/adapter thingies. Like this: http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=iDock&oe=UTF-8&cid=12068456354785594087, but a older I think. New in box!

Various Mac-style serial port switches/hubs

Farralon EtherWave "Stingray" Ethernet --> Localtalk transceiver

AAUI15 -> Ethernet Adapter

"Macintosh Display Adapter" (no idea...?)

Something called an "iView or an iTV View" (didnt get a chance to look at it)

Various other crap, SCSI cables, etc. that I haven't had a chance to inventory.

A small, black, apple-branded printer that the source called a "mini printer". I'll have another look at it tomorrow.

And the best part:

Mint Macintosh Portable (backlit) in original Apple bag

This has no hard drive and of course the battery is dead, but I'll be trying to boot if off of a floppy ASAP.

I think that's it -- all in all a pretty good haul! ;)

Nice conquest! Envious of the portable for sure.

The iDocks are great... However, I've encountered problems using them with OS X. If that is the case, open it up and disconnect the internal ADB adapter board on the iDock. The floppy, geoports, and hub all still work great for me. OS X recognizes the floppy, too!

#1 lets you use VGA input on a TV.

#2 is a Color StyleWriter 2200.

#3 is just awesome! So is everything else! Nice job! :b&w:

Yep -- figured out those mysteries this afternoon when I went rummaging through. The Duo has a "broken" hinge (looks to be just a cosmetic problem) but the Portable is in beautiful shape. Haven't gotten a chance to boot it, unfortunately, espescially since (I think) it only takes 800k disks.

AFAIK, all Portables shipped with superdrives, so unless yours has been modified, it should handle 1.4MB floppies just fine.

Great conquest! I just picked up a 1xx power adapter at the store today for $1.53 and had something like a portable in the back of my mind, just in case.

For everyone complaining that they don't get anything mac related on freecycle, ASK! I've never seen anything mac related on freecycle, but over 2 years I've gotten tons of things off by posting an ad with just this:

Wanted: Macintosh computers or parts

I'm looking for any working or non-working Macintosh's or parts. Thanks!

nice score. I have been looking for a replacement LC III since mine blew the SCSI controller. Not that I NEED it, it's just so darn cool.

And yes, I got a hell of a conquest from freecycle myself. I have yet to pair down the collection, but my parents have been overly helpful in housing it all, but their patience has been running thin, so I need to hurry up and work on that.
