Ejecting CD Tray on Sawtooth

A while back I found a 400mhz G4 Sawtooth for $5. After replacing the DVD-ROM drive with something I can actually use, it works except for one strange issue. Each time the G4 starts, it ejects the CD tray. It doesn't matter if there is a disk in it or not. So far I have tried an old DVD Combo drive, an almost new DVD+-RW drive and an older CD-ROM drive. It also doesn't matter if the Zip100 drive is attached or not.

The original drive cable is being used.

Any ideas as to why this is occurring?

I can vouch for possibly the keyboard being the issue. The last Sawtooth (converted to Gigabit Ethernet) that I used would always eject its drive on startup and would never boot from an optical disk provided I had a standard Windows labelled USB keyboard connected. I assume it's due to differences in the keyboard circuitry between standard Apple keyboards and PC keyboards related to the Eject key.

May be worth checking out if you have a standard PC keyboard.

At the moment it's using a USB-PS/2 adapter connected to a KVM switch. I'll take a USB Apple keyboard with me to work to see if that fixes things.
