I've run into several .cdr rips that both real and emulated hardware don't even recognize the filesystem on. I'll have to poke the person sending it to try again with imaging the drive rather than the disc.
I haven't seen the issue mentioned in person, because I don't really OSX... But that looks to be a quicksilver, I think they mean... Slightly newer than 20 year old machines.
I suggested dd because it gives you a raw data copy including all partitions and data associated with them. This is not always guaranteed when using CD burning/imaging software.

Sure I guess that could work…that is kind of you to offer. I am your quintessential Mac user from the 90s: I only work the GUI . Definitely not fancy like the rest of you guys.
@LaPorta Automator allows you to make an app that executes the commands for you. It'd be trivial for one of the hacker guys to make one. I was able to fumble my way through to make an app that executed the IMG2DSK utility.
