Do 32-pin, 400mil SOJ sockets still exist?

I'm thinking of building some 16MB 30-pin RAM SIMMs out of some surplus, unknown condition 128MB 72-pin SIMMs. With only 2 chips per 16MB SIMM, it should be pretty easy to weed out any bad ones, but it'd be great to be able to build some boards with sockets for quick, easy chip swapping. The chips are 32-pin SOJ, which is like a SOP/SOIC, but with "J lead" style legs, folded under like a PLCC. They are .400" (400 mil) wide.

I can find 32-SOJ sockets that are 300 mil wide: https://www.peconnectors.com/sockets-surface-mount/hws10099/
I can find 40-SOJ sockets that are 400 mil wide: https://www.peconnectors.com/sockets-surface-mount/hws8871/

...but I can't find 32-SOJ sockets that are 400 mil wide. I can find evidence that they were manufactured at one point, with some part numbers:

...but I can't find evidence that anybody is sitting on any stock of those old parts. The best idea I have is to just use the 40-SOJ sockets. It would be ugly, but functional. Before I do that, I figured I'd throw it out to the group here to see if anyone knows something I don't. Thanks!

That's an interesting idea! Have you tried searching on Octopart? For example, unless I'm misunderstanding, that Farnell datasheet link is telling me that 400 mil 32-SOJ socket part numbers are 165-200005-02 and 165-200005-12. Looks like Quest Components has a bunch of the former. If it helps, I can vouch for Quest -- I've bought things from them in the past with no issues.

You’re welcome! I’m interested to see what you end up creating. Never heard of a socketed RAM SIMM before.

I ordered from Connector People. They are delightfully old school; instead of automated order and payment confirmation emails, you get prompt, friendly, personal emails from two guys named Dave and Peter.

Now for the most important part of this project, working out the lyrics to a song about Socket RAM, to the tune of Rocket Man...

They're great. They have weird sockets like the ROM/cache sockets for many old world PCI Macs (x500, 6400, 6500, X100 PDS, G3 Perch). Oh, also a large stash of the 64 pin SIMM sockets.

Quest is also great. They actually have stock of the X500/X600 CPU sockets in both through hole and SM, pricey though. And they have the 1 Mbit serial flash for converting Radeon cards to Mac.

No! Please don't butcher 128MB 72-pin SIMMs, they are practically unobtanium (at anything remotely like affordable price) the 64MB simms are massivly cheaper and mostly seem to use the same ICs (they're probbaly used on other things too).
I have ordered 3 pairs of 128MB 72-pin SIMMs (all from vendors in the US) over the last 10 or 15 years. None have ever turned up!
And you're going to butcher some :,(

I'm not sure what you're talking about. These don't seem very expensive or hard to find, unless I am missing something. Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/304203669025

Thanks for the tip on 64MB SIMMs, though.

Firstly, you're more than welcome.

But secondly, this is the cheepest I can find on UK ebay, £82.00 + £23.58 = £105.58($105.12 + $30.23 = $135.34), and these have been this price or higher for a while here...

TBH I nealy fell of my chair! I'll ask if they'll ship to the UK, wish me luck.

Yeah, that's quite the markup. If you have trouble with US sellers who are unwilling to ship to the UK, I wouldn't mind at all forwarding them to you.

That's an extremly nice offer, I sent them a message on eBay (I haven't had a reply yet) I might yet take you up on the offer.
I see they're not the only sellers with good prices.
