so do you get the same result when you have the LC575 mainboard in there?  That would of been helpful to include this information from the beginning...............  The fact you were using both Color Classic Mainboard and LC575 mb....  Has the LC575 been re-capped?  How are you using the LC 575 MB in that with out any mods?      Sniff sniff....    Hmmmmmmm.....

and now you are talking about a CCII?   so does that also mean you are using a LC550 or Color Classic II mainboard?

Hmmmmm...........

That would of course need recapping, and if its a 575 motherboard would need analog hack of motherboard hack.

I believe that to install a 575 board I need to use RezEdit and edit a system file.  I have never done that before, but it is on my list of things to do in the future. Now that I know the CRT is good, and the CC will boot (mostly) I will probably look at installing my 575 board in the future.  You re caped a 575 board for me about 6 months ago.  I thought that I could not just slide a 575 board in my CC with out doing the edit of my system file.  Am I confused about this?  My CC has always been 512 x 384.  I have never done any screen upgrade.

I posted photographs of the two boards in my CC to this thread.  You also re caped both of them. The only thing board wise that is not original, is that i have a CC II logic board installed.  That is the board I have always used, and that is the board in my photographs.

Sorry about the confusion.

The CC will now cold boot all the time.  I can leave the power switch off for 8 or more hours and then turn it on, and the boot from the keyboard.   I can also leave the back power switch on, and then boot from the keyboard.

What I can not do is restart.  Every time I try to restart, I get one chime, then nothing on my screen.

Could this be a ROM issue?

When I bought my CC at the Goodwill, it had the original CC board in it.  I quickly replaced it for a CCII logic board that I bought on line.  That is the only board I have used in my CC.

I am not technical enough to tell the difference between a CCII board, and a LC 550 board.  Perhaps folks that know this stuff can look at photographs of my board that I posted to this thread and let me know?

My friend bought a 575 and installed both boards in his CC.  But he had to cut up the case of his CC to do this.  I am not sure I want to cut up my case.  So I bought a 575 board and thought about installing it in my CC.  But that is a future project.

What is the difference between a CCII board and a LC550 board?

There is no difference between the CCII and the 550 board.  They are the same.  The 575 needs an analog board hack, software hack or a motherboard hack to work in a CC.

I'm betting it was some kind of solder joint or open/short trace that just had to heal itself (remelt) with enough heat and voltage. I've seen it before. Black magic kind of stuff. If it is, it might indeed be a very fragile/tenuous connection, so don't be surprised if this strange syndrome comes back in the future. However, there is nothing you can really do about it. We have no idea what caused it, and no idea what solved it, so there is no way to prevent it from coming back. Enjoy your machine.

I think you are right Paralel.  I pulled the board and looked at it under high magnification and a strong light.  It looked OK to me.  But posts here make me think it is a multi layered board, with traces inside.  Or it could be on the board with the fly back transformer.

I have unplugged and plugged back in all the connectors many times and sprayed so much contact cleaner in every crevice, that I worry I am washing the traces away on the boards.

I can now leave the CC for about 24 hours with the back power switch off.  When I turn on the power and boot from the keyboard, it will boot every time.  And, when I leave the back power switch on, and walk away, I can always boot from the keyboard many hours later.

What is odd, it that I can not select "restart" from the menu and have the CC reboot.  It will give me one chime, a blank screen, and then sit.  It will do this all the time.  This is not intermittent.

Other then that, it seems to work perfect now.  I will just have to wait and see what happens I guess....

Thanks for the feedback.
