Classic 4MB

Hello! Sharing my latest toy with you all, a ugly but functioning Macintosh Classic. It was $30 on craigslist and I was told it was going to the trash soon if it didn't sell... Boots fast, 40MB HD with 7.0 on it and maxed ram...but has a few small scratches on the screen. The scratches don't bug me too much, after using it for a bit you don't notice the scratches. Being as beat up as it is, the logic board + entire inside looks like new. Nothing leaking, Zero dust 8-o . I dropped in a new battery pronto! If anyone has good advice about the scratches I'm all ears!! They aren't that deep, it looks as if something black is inside them and it might look much better if I can figure out removing it..Anyways, another one saved from a dump!

Cool! I bet you could triple your money on ePay...

Other than replacing the CRT I don't know of any tricks for the scratched screen.

I've got a spare Classic MoBo w/maxed memory expansion card available for nominal trade goodies! ;)

Any working Analog Board for my Plus Upgraded 128k would suffice. :approve:

Belay, that. I can't believe you can install 5 MB in that thing and still use only four. I thought it had 4MB on the MoBo, silly me! ::)

Unless I want to mess with acid or something screwy, I guess I'll have to deal. A spare CRT on ebay is more than I paid for this sadly...I am also afraid as soon as I replace the thing, something else will break  I appreciate how it is now. I love the ROM booting. It gives me something to look forward to when my HD xx(

Don't worry, the Classic wasn't headed for the trash ;) Nice meeting you by the way FlyingToaster lol...if I would've known it was a 68k user I would've given you a discount... :D

The best way to source a CRT is to get a "broken" unit which simply has bad caps or a bum analog board and is classified as "non-working" by someone who doesn't know the tricks of repair.

Remember to check the type of CRT in your Classic if you do replace it--Apple used two revisions in Classics. See the stickied thread in the compact forum for more information.

(To further elaborate--CRTs are tough to ship on their own but are far easier to get through the mail if there's a mount and case around them. I once sold a CRT to someone and gave it to him in a beat-up SE case to protect the CRT itself).

 what a coinkidink! I recall you saying you were "getting rid" of them so I figured it was a last ditch effort you throwing them on Cl. I am very happy with this thing thanks again! My dad is moving to a new place and I'll probably bring this thing over as a gift when he is settled..after I paint it  Hope you can get rid of that other one, and be careful of craigslist weirdos lol

haha yea some guy was supposed to "for sure please hold it" come and get it today...still got it for now.

I'm just trying to "get rid" of some of my collection to get it down to only 2 compact macs, my se/30 & color classic. enjoy it, if you need any spare parts i at least have replacement simms and analog board.

I scratched my NeXT Megapixel screen when I was realigning the deflection yoke magnets.

Forgot to put it down on a towel....

I was able to notably reduce the visibility of the scratch by using glass polish and a buffer bit on a dremel.

Just be glad it's a minor scratch. I've got an iMac G3 with a little chip out of its screen.

Some of you mention parts to keep on hand. I'd advise an extra logic board just in case you have a leaky battery.

You know, I wonder if that "safelite" auto glass repair method would work....

Maybe clean up the scratch the best you can, and "fill" it in.
