Can an SE run with no PRAM battery?

So I have a Mac SE thats giving me Simasimac. I'm thinking of washing the board and also doing something about the corrosion near the back. However, its an SE board with the battery soldered on, which obviously I want to remove. My question is- can an SE run without a PRAM battery? I know the 128k/512k/Plus will, but I just want to confirm that the SE will as well.

yeah they still work fine, I always clip those out...

but i would like to make a comment,

I clipped one out a couple weeks ago, but here is the funny thing about it, it was original- (VARTA 3v made in west germany).

it still had voltage, 2.93v :p thats a really good battery!

Acutely, Now that i'm thinking about it, the battery came in the main board of Hap's Clear see-through prototype SE.

Agreed, yes, you do not need a PRAM battery. My favorite SE is used so infrequently that I've never had a battery installed for fear of it exploding, although now that I have an ethernet card installed in it, it may see a bit more use.

Just out of curiosity… What is the use of a PRAM battery in a SE with a network card?

I have one too. A 3Com card.

You can reach its web server on:

http://mac.vanegten.com

Takes around 10 to 15 seconds to get a page...

This is until 23:00 CET ( Amsterdam Time) …. Don’t like to keep it running at night….

I guess it's just user preference. The only drawback to running with no battery is having to reset your mouse speed, menu blinks and AppleTalk port after every shutdown. I don't mind that.

There is an app that will save your options to disk and restore them after boot, however that still doesnt keep time.

Plus: those batteries are just darn cute.
