Hey guys,
After finding an Indigo G3 'easter egg' in April, I wanted to add an iBook from the same era to my collection. So the past two months, I've been checking Dutch second-hand sites almost daily. Several popped up, but most of the sellers are across the country and refuse to ship an old machine like this. There were also quite a few in less-then-stellar condition.
Last week, I found a nice looking iBook G3 Graphite. The seller had some good photo's and showed the install media as well as a working screenshot. According to him, it was working fine (battery excepted, naturally...). The price was a reasonable 50 euros, so I decided to take the plunge.
I'm happy to report it works and is in excellent shape. The case is crisp and clean with only one tiny stress crack on the inside logo (supposedly a common issue for this model). The rubber bumpers are intact and look excellent. The keyboard, trackpad and screen are all immaculate and work like new. (Excellent key stroke on this model.) I haven't tried the CD-ROM drive but I assume that works as well. It runs OS9 and comes with standard specs: 64 mb ram, 6 gb hard drive, 366 mhz processor.
I ordered an Airport card for it so I can get it online for some couch browsing. I'll try some of the battery 'tricks' to see if I can awaken the dead battery. Otherwise I'll have to order one. Not too expensive, so won't be much of an issue.
All in all, a nice little addition to the collection.
