I totally understand. I got sick of it myself.

Another machine i got pretty tired of was the 867 MHz 12" Al PowerBook. In stock form, it was an excellent machine once I replaced the display, but the 40 GB 4200 RPM hard drive was kind of slow. So, I decided to upgrade it, and inexplicably, once I installed the new drive, the machine stopped recognizing both it and the internal optical drive, so it sat uselessly for quite awhile. I eventually came across a big lot of parts machines, so I attempted to fix it, but *nothing* worked!

I finally gave up on it and put together a nice 1.33 GHz one instead. Last I knew, that one still worked!

I think I eventually discovered that the cable for the optical drive somehow went bad (despite the fact that I never touched it when I upgraded the hard drive, which is on the opposite side of the machine!), as after I disconnected it on a whim, it suddenly started to boot again (from Firewire, because I didn't have any other drives to put in it), but by then I was so burned out I didn't care.

It really sucks when stuff like that happens. Back a couple of years ago I took some parts like the RAM and fans out of my Power Mac G5 to get some of the 15+ years of dust off of them, and when I put it all back in, the logic board just died. Blinking white light of death (blinking once each time, not twice or 3 times like a RAM error). It never ran again, and I had to painstakingly replace it a whole year later when a board of the same part number popped up for cheap on eBay. It was a massive pain thanks to the power supply cover screws being completely stripped, meaning I had to do the whole thing with it still installed. I managed to pull it off though.

I, too can say with absolute certainty that rebuilding G5s is a pain!

I once swapped an entire G5 into a new tower because the original one had had it's feet mangled and front dented in. I managed to do it, and amazingly, it still worked when I was done!

This doesn't include the Quad I kept trying to get working. After like the 10th try, I finally concluded that the logic board must've somehow failed. I got another one which allegedly had a dead CPU but otherwise worked, but that was several years ago, and its cooling system has probably leaked all over and killed stuff by now (hopefully not, for I have a rebuilt and working cooling system and known-good CPUs to put into it someday).

I also have an iMac G5 (17" w/o iSight) which has a stipe-tastic LCD that needs to be replaced, something I've been dreading ever since I got it.

I don't like G5s very much....

They're plenty of fun when they work. As soon as something goes wrong they become a nightmare! I'm praying my iMac G5 doesn't develop capacitor issues. I can replace them, but I really don't want to.

I bought another top case, this one claims to be new old stock. We'll see.

I hope it ends up working as that MacBook actually has really great battery health, as in, I could actually take it around and use it.

It just arrived, and it works great. Definitely new old stock, perfect condition and the keyboard not just works perfectly, but it feels new to type on as well. And it was cheaper than the used ones that didn't even work!
