A 9150 and retinue

After years of looking, today I picked up an AWS 9150, complete with DAT, 5 drive sled, CD-ROM (and bezel) — all the fixin's. Haven't booted it yet, as I am just in the door and have to do other things, but I'll give it a day or so and the magic hopefully will follow.

Along with it, I got a Plus, a 128 or 512 upgraded to a Plus (replacement logic board and rear bucket, sold as an official upgrade path), a Classic II, a 5400/200 and an LC580. Along with these came some assorted keyboards and AppleShare manuals in a box.

All for $20.

Most of it I do not want and will sell on, but they were going to be scrapped, and the 9150 is a real find, especially in these parts. This is one of those rare machines that I had never actually seen with my own eyes before today.

The machines all originally belonged to a publisher.

Very nice find, especially for $20! I'd say the 5400/200 and LC 580 are a bit less common than some of the other models they shared their respective form factors with as well (or so it seems in my experience)...but the 9150 is obviously an amazingly awesome find.

Congratulations; I'm sure others here will be happy to take the unwanted ones off your hands.

Excellent! A "big Quadra" is still on my list. It always feels good to finally find that elusive machine, eh?

It was indeed on kijiji, and for a very long time, but in Welland. The guy couldn't sell in that small market and in the end just wanted it all out of the house. I have a sister down there and was visiting.

I really only wanted the 9150, and the Compacts, but at that price did him a favour in taking the larger AIOs.

The original faceplate serial on the upgraded 128k is F428284U1M0001, so according to the usual sources, it was "the 2588th Mac manufactured during the 28th week of 1984 in Fremont, California, USA." Too bad it got converted to a Plus. As it is not an intact machine, but a kind of freak, and as I have a mint Plus already, I am most likely going to strip it for internal parts (esp. the screen, to replace a burned-in SE screen), and sell the bezel etc. on to a good home.

If you want to sell the bezel, let me know. I might be interested incase I find a 128 in bad shape.

Compacts are all non-functional (horizontal lines in the case of two, no boot and a ticking noise in the other), but the 580 works just fine and the 5400 just has a bad HD. The 9150 makes all the appropriate noises but apparently has no system installed.

No, but I might be getting a 128k shortly off of the web, but the bezel is badly chipped. PM me if/when you are interested in selling it. Shipping would be to Southern California.
