Does someone know the lcd and cable required to upgrade a cs to a c in a beautiful 190cs? The screen is nice, no complaints but would rather have an active matrix display

My 5300c LCD is manufactured by Toshiba. I had it open recently to swap the CCFL tube in it out for the one in my 5300ce screen (don't have a working cable for it unfortunately...) but I was stupid and didn't write down the model number.

Cable part number for the 640x480 Toshiba screen is 632-0069-02, or 821-0084.

Some 5300c units also shipped with a Sharp LQ10D32M display. It will require a different ribbon cable though for a sharp LCD.
According to thebookyard.com, the part number for that cable is 922-1440.
They also claim that a Hosiden made display exists for the 5300c, but I cannot validate this anywhere.

Here's a list of LCD part numbers on my website: https://macdat.net/extras/powerbooklcdindex.html
I need to update it to include that the 5300c also shipped with a Toshiba panel.

Huh, so the Sharp 5300c screen should be compatible with the Blackbird series since the model of screen for the 550c is the brother of the one in the 5300c. Interesting. I'd be very interested to know if the stock 540c Blackbird inverter can run the backlight, of if the 5300 inverter is compatible with the Blackbird.

In the past I transplanted a 640x480 5300c screen onto a 190cs with great success. I rather liked it because it ran on a 68LC040, sported an active matrix display once altered, was equipped with a whopping 40MB (48?) of RAM, and took an easily replaced IDE drive. Alongside all that, it had the modular design for a Zip drive and PCMCIA of later PowerBooks. And I even had the Zip module (though a couple of years ago I sold that on here, where someone was pleading for one).

The machine‘s battery leaked soon after the new screen went on, however, and the machine was damaged (the copper sprung contacts for the battery were eaten away), so it got put on a shelf awaiting repair — I had a donor logic board standing ready and all. But life took over in the form of a very hard knock, I never got back around to it, and the upshot is that I haven’t touched the machine for maybe 15+ years.

I think I must still have it somewhere in storage. If interested in having it for parts, I could have a poke around, but most of my stuff is pretty inaccessible just now so I wouldn’t hold my breath in excitement….
