I want to install Python on my eMac and some packages like NumPy, Matplotlib, etc.
Installing the Python package was easy. I downloaded v3.5.4 from python.org. With some help from Google, I was able to get pip installed. I have pip and pip3 running, it seems.
However, I cannot install any...
About a year ago, during days of better health and all that, I purchased a Power Mac G4 from the shopgoodwill site. The machine was advertised as having a 733 MHz processor and 128 MB of RAM. This is what is printed on the specifications sticker on the back.
Now, after a long long long break, I...
I am currently using a ZuluSCSI Mini v1.0 on my Centris 650. It connects to the 25 pin port on the back of the machine. Would I see faster R/W speeds if I used an internal ZuluSCSI device connected to the 50 pin ribbon cable? Or do these two ports perform identically?
Thanks! :)
After getting a taste of a 68k system through my Cenrtis 650, I decided to pick up a beige G3 desktop. Here is the eBay listing I purchased the machine from.

I purchased this machine because the seller offered to pay for return shipping.
The machine...
I installed Mathcad 6 from the Macintosh Garden on my Centris 650 and it crashes when opening. It looks like the program wants to get past the splash screen but can't.
The upper righthand corner of the splash screen disappears and the computer hangs here.
I tested this installation on my...
One of my goals in increasing the RAM in my Centris 650 is to load very large spreadsheets of financial data and have the computer churn through all of my calculations, no matter how painful it may seem.
It looks like I am unable to load anything beyond 1.6MB. I stumbled upon this when I...
I found a neat little benchmark program called TimeDrive.
https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/timedrive
Here is what the program said about my ZuluSCSI Mini.
(apologies again for my super blue photos - CRT screens are hard to photograph)
Is that a normal speed? Am I ahead of the curve? Am I...
When I installed OS 8.1 on my Centris 650, I selected all available options for everything. I figured that I could always reinstall a fresh OS if this was a bad idea.
One consequence of installing everything was the longer boot time. I have disabled some extensions like those for printers and...
I was enthralled with the demos for the Atari ST and MS-DOS machines coming out in the 80s and 90s. Future Crew's 2nd Reality was the hottest thing I ever saw since trying to stare at the sun one time.
I don't remember seeing or hearing of any demos that flexed the processing power of the 68k...
I just installed MacPython 1.5.2 from the Macintosh Garden. Wow! I didn't think Python was available for the 68k machines.
I saw that numpy is included with the installer but only for PPC machines. Was there ever a 68k version of numpy?
Thanks!
I cleaned my keyboard tonight and broke my spacebar as I was removing it. The front face of it cracked off.
It happened as I was gently grabbing it and lifting upward. I was surprised at easily it broke. Just barely a grab. In retrospect I see I should have been more careful. It yellowed...
My Centris 650 is slowly coming together. Last night I got TattleTech 2.59 installed and I could see some specifications on my system. Nice!
Now I want to test and benchmark those systems, especially RAM.
Can anyone recommend a good benchmarking program that would run my Centris 650 through...
I'd like to max out the RAM in my Centris 650 before I button up the case. From a little bit of research on the internet, I am thinking of buying two of these to get 128MB.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/155306584183
I want to max out the RAM because I want to run a RAM disk. It sounds like the...
I tested my CD drive in my Centris 650 by playing an audio CD. It works! Now I want to try reading data from the drive.
I have the OS 8.1 installation CD and I downloaded the ISO images of MS Office and ClarisWorks. These images seem to mount fine when I use the Basilisk II emulator. For some...
I received my ZuluSCSI today and tried using it with some images. It looks like it doesn't fit into the rear SCSI port. The underside of the resin case bumps into the surrounding plastic bezel.
I remove the ZuluSCSI's case and was able to insert the board into the reard SCSI connector, but now...
My ZuluSCSI Mini is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I understand I can run OS 7 and OS 8 on my Centris 650. Is there a guide or consensus on when to use each OS version? I was thinking of having an image of OS 7 and image for OS 8 and just toggling between them.
Or, should I go with OS 8 since...
I turned on my Centris 650 after cleaning it up and it seems to work! A chime rang out and the monitor lit up!
Unfortunately, it won't boot. 😞 The screen shows a floppy disk with a flashing question mark.
Did I destroy the drive? Did I destroy the built-in SCSI controller?
Is there a way I...
My Centris 650 from my thread, Entering the 68k ecosystem with a Centris 650 - what to check?, arrived.
The machine is absolutely filthy, inside and out. I can blow out the dirt, dust, sand, etc but I am concerned about dried pool of white "something" around one of the chips.
@Juror22...
Hello everyone! I will be entering the 68k ecosystem soon with a Centris 650 I purchased from eBay. The system comes with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. What are some of the first things I should I check for when I receive the system? Pre-boot and during first boot?
What are some good...
