I picked up an SE/30 off eBay, but it needs some TLC.
I got a nice surprise when the unit arrived, as it's got an Ethernet card. It's branded Technology Works, which is a new one on me.
As I expected, the battery had leaked and caused some corrosion on the PCB. The entire battery holder actually fell off when I removed the motherboard from the case.
After gently removing some of the leaked battery fluid & corrosion, it doesn't look too bad, but there are two immediate problems:
- crystal Y1 is gone
- RTC pins are pretty badly corroded
- capacitor C12 is also affected
I also fear some of the vias may have been affected.
Y1 is apparently a ~32kHz crystal. Is it possible to source a replacement RTC, or will I need a donor? One could probably replace it with a small modern MCU.
I'm aware the capacitors will likely need replaced, although a cursory glance doesn't indicate any that are bulging or leaking yet.
Any suggestions on what else to look for? I'm going to do a bit more cleaning with some isopropyl alcohol before embarking on anything more drastic.
