Macintosh SE/30 battery leaking

Hello everyone,

I picked up a Macintosh SE/30 with a logic board in poor condition. There are signs of corrosion and the battery has leaked. I’d like to get your opinion on whether it can be repaired. I’m not an expert, and if it is repairable I would prefer to have the work done by someone skilled, as I don’t have the necessary experience.

I’ve read that the video ROM can be replaced with an equivalent part, but that it must be flashed with the correct program.

More generally, do you have any contacts or recommendations for people who can carry out this kind of repair (I'm in France)?

Thanks,

Will

board is probably repairable with some effort. would not be cheap unless you're doing it yourself

i'd start by cleaning the battery corrosion with some white vinegar or something.

if not, components could be saved for use on a reproduction board. again, not cheap.

Personally I wouldn’t waste my time with that board… it’s gonna have trace damage all over the place, including the inner layers. I can’t get the images to zoom where I am but it looks like there’s damage to some chips too, although they may well be salvageable.

I’d say that’s much more of a candidate for a reloaded rebuild, which isn’t as hard as it may seem.. it’s more just tedious.

I agree, too far gone, not easy and won’t be cheap if you are not skilled yourself.

The other issue is that when the LB is bad with that amount of rust and damage, chances are the floppy and hard drive will be ruined as well.
