Applevision 1710 Candy Plastic

I'm up to two non-working Apple Vision 1710s now. I would love to take a crack at fixing them but the plastic pretty much just disintegrates when I look at them wrong. Is there a magic method to getting them open to try and repair or do I just ewaste them? I'd love to have one working to go with my now recapped IIci, but I'm afraid they will be pretty well destroyed by even trying to fix them. Thanks!

Basically, merge two into one and keep and repair the least broken plastics on the way. Note the 1710 had a pretty substantial recall on the CRT/video controller board or were replaced with a completely new model CRT when returned to Apple. Hopefully one of yours has the replacement controller board (recall mine was marked pretty clearly when I opened it up, it had bright stickers and marking in permanent marker).

Regarding the plastics, usually you can strengthen them up from the inside, the spines/vents around the back snap easily be as messy as you like on the inside and nothing will show up externally.

Not their finest model, but if you can get a working one, you'll love the IQ.

See my thread about it here:

Awesome, thanks for the reply and the thread reference! I'll try and not give up. As it is right now the only sync on green monitor I have is an NEC C550 but it doesn't seem to respect h-size so everything bleeds over. Would love to have a good setup!
