The scummy looking caps on the IIfx board...
Huh?!? All the IIfx boards I have seen, up until now, had tantalum caps from the factory. Interesting that there are some with electrolytic cans.

The 3 IIfx boards I have done, had electrolytics just like in the picture above.

As I have said in another thread, the IIfx seem unique to the fact it contains Pads for Both Electrolytic and Tantalum caps.

Wound up transferring the Apple PC 5.25" Drive controller to the IIfx, then setting that machine up on my desk, behind the Dell LCD monitor that is hooked up to the MDD. That way, when I want to use the fx, I can slide the LCD monitor between the IIfx and the dock for my Dell, stash the keyboard for the MDD somewhere, then use the fx. I am looking for a case bottom for a IIfx, though. Would be nice to actually have the computer marked as such, instead of being marked as a Mac II. Also need to get the special black terminator and some larger sticks of RAM.

Depending upon the manufacture date of that IIfx board, you may not need the Black Terminator. It shipped with the early MoBos, but they fixed the termination problems fairly quickly, IIRC. Have you had problems using a standard terminator setup? I've got one for my pet IIfx, but I've yet to have the need to use it.

Received a MacBook 13.3" 2.4GHz C2D from finder in exchange for an SE/30, IIcx, a Plus, and a couple motherboards. Shelved the MDD, since I finally have a modern Mac that works well with the 'net...

Will post a new setup pic as soon as I clean things up...

^that should've read from ian.finder - not sure why that happened.

Anyway, a small update - getting ready to deconquest the IIci to mcdermd, maybe for some stuff that his friend in Eugene has. Got the stuff I wanted to keep moved over to the IIfx (a couple Nubus cards and the 250MB Quantum drive). Then, decided to try playing Super Tetris. Even though I'm running a video card (the Spectrum 8/24 PDQ+) that seemed painfully slow in the ci, the fx is as responsive as the ci would be using the built-in VampireVideo.

Current configuration of the fx is:

8MB of RAM, 250MB drive, two 1.4MB SuperDrives, VideoSpigot, Asanté MC3NB ethernet interface (swapped in from the ci), Apple 5.25" PC Drive interface, SuperMac Spectrum 8/24 IV, SuperMac Spectrum 8/24 PDQ+. Am running the 14" M1212 MCD that's shown in my avatar, a M0115 keyboard, and a A9M0331 mouse that I picked up from RE-PC many years ago. Think I originally conquested that for my old 7100/80 that I bought in late 2000. Was in regular use until March 2009, when I got my G4 DA.

Still want to upgrade the RAM, maybe add an external CD-ROM drive, and possibly a sound card, so I can do audio input, like I did with my original Mac II series machine - the lowly IIsi.

Looks like I may've conquested some IIfx RAM. Receiving 20MB worth of RAM off of evilBay. Will probably offer eight 1MB SIMMs to the group, if anyone's interested. Will go cheap.

Only took 16 of the 20MB that was being offered on evilBay. Once I remembered that the larger amount needed to go into Bank A, I was good to go. Prior to that, got the chimes of death, since I had them in Bank B. Also received two Airport Extreme cards from olePigeon...

32GB iPhone 4s for $225 - Is running iOS 7, but seems to be a bit more stable than the old 4. Also conquested a replacement leaf spring for the "M" key on my Macbook, as well as a hard drive sled for the Quadra 660av. Will be putting 8.1 on the 3GB Fireball TM that I have from my old 7100/80 that I got rid of many moons ago.

Had to partition the 3GB drive in the Q660av into two 1.5GB partitions, since I forgot that an '040 Mac still can't boot from an HFS+ volume under 8.1. In any case, 8.1 is installing as I type this. I may put 7.6.1 on the second partition.

The hard drive in the MacBook has been partitioned and has 10.7.3 installed on the second partition. Discovered that only two applications are PowerPC only on the main partition. Unfortunately, one is Photoshop CS2. The other is the Solitaire House game app. So, until CS3 or CS4 is sourced (would love to do CS6, but not enough cash to do so), the computer will remain a dualboot system. The C2D iMac may just get upgraded to Lion, since Rosetta isn't even installed on it.

I still need to head down to Oregon to meet up with mcdermd and macdrone. Maybe next weekend. Am picking up a Plus from mcdermd (and his old IIfx), then bringing some stuff down for macdrone.

Looks like a IIsi will be arriving in a couple days. Local score off CL. Has Nubus adapter installed, a non-Quantum SCSI hard drive (might be a Conner), etc...

The aforementioned IIsi has landed. 3/40 configuration, running System 7.0.1. Personal files got deleted as soon as I had the machine running. Swapped drive and RAM between the IIci and the si. Now have a 17/230 config IIsi and a 4/40 config IIci. Also installed an Asanté ethernet card while I was in there. I do need to source an undamaged base, though. Both tabs that hold the hard drive in place have broken off. Sound works, which is good. Caps look clean, surprisingly. They will get replaced as a preventative measure, though. I did have the previous owner delete the Maxell that was on the logic board, even though it looked ok. Don't trust it.

A spare G4 DA motherboard and a set of four early Apple Computer stickers. Put the board into the DA last night. Got the startup bong when I was done. Set it up today, and, it works how it did before the original board was pulled for recapping a few months ago.

Apple 5.25" Disk Interface Card for my //e

DuoDisk cable

A second DuoDisk.

Got all those items from James1095. Haven't yet worked with the SE, but have set the //e up with five floppy drives. The DuoDisk in slot 6, the Apple 3.5 SuperDrive (stealth version) in slot 5 (connected with a Laser UDC - so only works as an 800K drive), and a pair of disk ]['s in slot 4. Moved the mouse card to slot 7. That way, if I run Apple Pascal, it will recognize all four 5.25" drives.

Flight Simulator II software has arrived. Later today, I hope to pick up the IIgs from the post office. It, too, has passed through one of the local sorting facilities on its way to my PO.

Dead ROM 01 IIgs with an Applied Engineering GS-RAM Plus memory card installed. As long as the card works, that's all that matters.
