Wallstreet screen problem

So I got a great deal on a Wallstreet, but the screen has these weird comb-shaped white areas that point to the left on it. They are vertical.

And the screen is pinkish at boot-up, then turns normal.

Someone suggested that the machine has a bad video data cable and even though the cable is cheap, it takes someone pretty fearless to go in there and change the cable out.

Can anyone offer advice? I don't know of a good Mac mechanic in my neighborhood. The machine came with loads of goodies, so I could probably piece it out and get my money back, but the Wallstreet is such a sweet machine that I'd like to fix it.

Thanks for any sage advice,

Jan in Alaska

Can you post a picture showing the problem?

How cheap are the video cables (there are 2, one goes to the LCD and the other controls the inverter and has lines to the mic at the top of the display.

Is this a 13" or 14" screen?

As far as working on the display itself it is easy enough to get into them, I think you just need a torx 8 bit to take them apart (same size as the case screws). I have 3 complete wallstreets here and some spare parts (used to make the 3 working ones). I never worked on a mac laptop before but it was easy figuring things out.

The pink hue is a common symptom of an aged ccfl backlight. In middle age, it will start pink, and gradually whiten as it warms up. When still older, it will pretty much remain pink, if it starts. Eventually, it won't even start.
