Décor works fine but does anybody know how to convert images to a PICT format other than using the online service? I have a Pixelmator and GIMP but couldn't figure it out.

Adobe Photoshop 3.0. Opens JPGs and TIFFs and can save to PICT files. That’s if you want to do it from your 68K Mac.

On modern systems, there was an open source tool I use (command line tool), which worked but haven’t used it in a while so I don’t recall which of them it was that worked well for me. Might have been imagemagick, but will need to check when I get home.

Thank you. I will try PS3 on the emulator tonight. The emulators run faster than my real 68k macs. Lol. I will report back later of my results. Thanks again!

Had some free time during lunch so I tried the conversion from jpeg to pict format using PhotoShop 3. It worked just fine! Thank you!

Cool, glad it worked!

For completeness, the command line tool I used was imagemagick. You can get it via home brew on modern Macs. It will also convert many image types to PICT.

Has anyone been able to get any of Decor, DeskPicture, ColorDesk, Backdrop, or any other desktop background software to work on System 7.5.5? If you have, can you upload the image file you used and any settings that might be relevant? I've tried all four on my SE/30 (both with and without other extensions/control panels enabled) and none of them have worked. ColorDesk and DeskPicture will make my desktop icons blink when I try to change the background, but nothing else changes. Backdrop displayed my picture during startup, but once the desktop loaded the background was replaced with a pattern I had set previously.
Bob, I have had the same experience as you. I tried all 4 desktop background programs you listed, same results, none of them worked in system 7.5.5 on an SE/30. I do have a rominator II running 32bit clean on 128mb of ram. Maybe that’s got something to do with it. With backdrop, the picture loads at startup, but then gets overwritten. Similarly, I can set the picture with DeskPicture, but then as soon as I exit the control panel, it gets overwritten by the system desktop pattern. I am successfully using DeskPicture in 7.0.1.
